NO ELDORA! Wonder if this has anything to do w/Tony's rumored plans for a new series?

Hard to imagine Eldora with out the all stars, they always seem to draw a great field of cars. 35 Plus each time they ran there last year. And what can you say about speedweek with out an Eldora stop!

I have a question.

First, this is NOT meant to cause anyone to jump on a bandwagon and beat a drum!

Do the All Stars actually have any "real stars" remaining in their group? They don't get a lot of PR out here and I am just wondering. It seems their numbers are decreasing.

thanx

Dale Blaney, Tim Shaffer, Greg Wilson, Brandon Wimmer and Dean Jacobs are all significant names and they have some good young talent coming up through the series. The problem isn't and never will be the drivers.

A post was made by Ryan Meyers' wife(2008 rookie of the year) on pitgate earlier today and I think it says all that needs to be said on the subject.

"We ran the full All Star schedule for 2 years. After winning rookie of the year in 08 we decided to run with them again and get a top 5 points finish. Which we would have if not for the accident that caused us to miss the last 6 races. All of the All Stars were really nice guys. It was Guy Webb that made the series not fun to run with. He makes up rules as he goes and favors the "big names." He is one of the reasons we are not running with them this year. The series needs a new owner who treats ALL his drivers with respect."

I must have missed something...they treat what specific "BIG NAMES" different? Blaney was paid a percentage of his points based on the races he ran (Per George)....why wouldn't Ryan? It seems that everyone was treated the same on this particular issue. I'm curious as to what "BIG NAMES" get treated differently...give us an example (other than the above).

You'll have to go to the source. She seems willing enough to comment on it in the pitgate forum. However, I will point out that this isn't the only person/driver that has had an issue with the management in recent years, so take it however you wish. I know a couple of former employees of the series that don't exactly have "happy memories" of their time there. I'll leave their names out of it incase they don't want to become involved in some kind of silly flame war.

Attack me for being vague if you wish, but I'll point out that if everything was all "unicorns and rainbows", there would be no mention of any of this stuff and they'd be running at Eldora like they have practically every year since the series began.

It's a matter of perception. The WoO teams seem to feel the management sucks,USAC teams seem to feel the same way, etc. etc. I'm not saying the All Stars are perfect, but if this is the example given, then they were treated fairly based on the rulebook and how someone else was treated. As far as former employees...they made their statement by not being there anymore.

P/S...I would agree with your first, second and fifth names!

Most of what we saw from Wimmer was his ability to take others out or crash! Frown

What's this stuff about Smoke starting "another" series in Ohio. I think you guys have a good thing going with FAST!

Somehow, the new series fell through. The people that are in the know have stayed pretty quiet about it, so all we can do is speculate. I'm guessing that some politics happened, but I really know nothing.

And about FAST, I simply can't say enough about what those guys have done to get that series going. They deserve all the praise that they can get and more. Especially in the current economic environment. This part of the country is well over the average as far as unemployment numbers ect...What they've been able to achieve is a true testament to dedication to the sport. Hopefully other areas of the country can use them as a template and improve their local racing scenes in the same manor.

Sprinty11, I agree with you to a point. The perception, wether it's true or not, is that Bert would have taken care of the young man under the circumstances and the current management would not. That's the whole basis behind the discord with the series that we see today. Bert went out of his way to take care of his drivers and it paid off for him in the long run. Everyone in the community had the utmost respect for the man and the series. Something has changed. It's undeniable.
