Check out these video clips that were contributed to my website several years ago. They're from the upper Midwest sometime during the 50's, got the DVD from the daughter of one of the car owners. She thought one of the tracks might be the Iowa Fairgrounds and guessed that another could have been the Owatonna, Minnesota, half mile. I started going to races around 1961 so they had the hoop behind the head and were transitioning from Offies to Chevy small blocks. There were a lot of good memories but racing could get evil back in those days. I lived three blocks from the Minnesota State Fair while it was still dirt when they used to race all ten days. We lost some drivers during that era and it would always be front page news in the St. Paul paper. There were some glamorous memories but the cars were running laps in 20's, weren't safe by any means and the dust was terrible because they were day races. I'm fond of those old memories but I prefer the 2010 version of Sprint Car racing. I always like to say that there's a fine line between historian and dinosaur so I don't like to dwell too much on the racing I saw when I was a kid.

Ah yes .... the good old days ...men were men ...women were women ....and sheep were sheep ....and everyone knew the difference ....
Now you can marry your brother, adopt your dog and swap dna with your sister and the government says not only is it all good and legal.
It is also your constitutional right.
