...can anyone direct me to where to read about the history of the Gold Cup...what was the first year?...past champions?...etc

That 1951 (First Gold Cup at Hughes Stadium) Trophy is still very much alive and well. It actually made the trip to Chico last year, but time was a factor and nothing was mentioned.
