Sprint Car legend, Jack Hewitt, is offering a thrilling experience as a passenger in his two-seater 410 sprint car at Putnam County Speedway on Saturday, Feb. 6, beginning at 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM (to give time for fans to make the races at Volusia County or other speedweeks events). Your experience will consist of Jack driving you as a passenger for 6 laps (1 entry lap, 4 laps at speed, 1 exit lap) at the 3/8 mile clay track. The cost for this once in a lifetime opportunity is $125.00. Full safety gear (helmet and driving suit) will be provided. If there is enough interest in joining Jack for these rides, Sunday, Feb. 7 may also be available. Putnam County Speedway is located on Hwy. 17, approx 45 minutes north of Volusia County Speedway. To reserve a spot or for further info, please call (904) 226-1434.

I've seen him at Osky before with the Non-Wing guys a few years back. It'd be cool as hell to strap on some Depends and go a couple rounds with him.

One of the coolest things I have ever witnessed was when Hewitt took Page Jones for a ride in the two seater at the chili bowl. Page had been hurt some time and was still struggling to just function normal, but when he got in that car it was awesome. I was in the infield and could see both of them inside the car. Page's hands were almost in perfect time with Jack's. If you didn't know who was who you wouldn't have know which one was driving. Still get goose bumps thinking about it. Very very cool. And by the way Jack was not taking it easy, as if he knows how.

Yeah, there's a few guys like Hewitt, Haud, Hillenburg that I'd have to say "no thanks" to a ride. Odds are too good that I'd get to experience how it feels on 2 wheels or worse.

I rode with Jack wingless. He says that people want to know what it feels like to race a sprint car, he's going to show them. He runs it like he races it and there is no panic button in his car like some others have had.

I think there was a driver out on the west coast that got a couple of people upside in a two seater. Bobby Burrows I think. That is what you call getting your money worth.

I got the next to last ride from T-Mac at Knoxville before he sold his two seater (front and back, not side by side). It was during the June WOO show three or four years ago, and he had sold three rides as a fund raiser for the Hall of Fame at their auction.

Let me tell you, if you EVER have a chance and can afford it, you will have a major league high. It gave me a whole new appreciation for the guys that get in those cars every week. I'm sure we didn't hit the speeds the drivers experience, but the g-forces in the turns are incredible. That heavy helmet wants to pull your head out of the car, and I was sure we were going toslide into the fence. Lori told me after the ride that the drivers usually have a stiff neck all summer, and I believe it. Unfortunately, I couldn't get my glasses into the helmet they had, and with the front/back seat arrangement, I couldn't see a lot in front of us, so I am sure I missed some of the visual impact, but it was still great. I must think about that ride every week or two and at every race I attend.

I would pay double that amount and do it twice if the ride included getting to watch Jack Hewitt chew out an official. Smile

I was fortunate enough to go for a ride with Jimmy Sills in his winged 2 seater at Chico a few years back during the Gold Cup, let me tell you it is like nothing else you have ever experienced! Never pass up an opportunity to ride along. You will have a brand new respect for each and every driver that races a sprint car. G-Forces are shocking in the turns, at least for this bleacher creature. Tunnel vision the whole time it seemed to me and you almost forget to breathe.LOL When Jimmy dipped the right rear over the cushion and then back on to the track, your guts are planted to your seat. Just awesome!
