More important, I'd like to thank all the other officers for their willingness to take on the responsibility of joining the Board. As an organization, we've made a lot of progress to regroup in the last year and I'm looking forward to a year of continuing that progress so we can make MSPA even better. AWARD WINNERS We also know who will be stepping up on stage to receive our Racer of the Year awards on Wednesday night, March 3 at Francesca's Restaurant in Oakland. They are: Gordon Martin Award: Beth Gribbin Motorsportsman of the Year: Seth Neiman, owner, Flying Lizard Motorsports, for the team's national Grand Am title in GT2 Open Wheel/Oval Track: Jason Meyers, runnerup to national champion, World of Outlaws sprint cars Bud Kaeding, USAC national champion, Silver Crown series Tanner Swanson, USAC Western States sprint cars Open Wheel/Road Course: J.R. Hildebrand, champion, Indy Lights Series Closed Wheel/Oval Track: Jacob Gomes, NASCAR Late Model national Rookie of the Year Bill Spencer Award/Motorcycles: Patrick Garrahan, AMA District 36 Cross Country champion MSPA Hall of Fame inductees: Paul Tyler/Rising Star: Jessica Brunelli, USAC Ford Focus series MSPA Hall of Fame inductees: George Benson; San Jose and Mike Sergeant, San Jose You may be wondering why we are honoring three people in the Open Wheel/Oval Track category. As you may recall from the voting pamphlet, we agreed to honor the top two vote getters in this category because of the large number of candidates. This is always our most competitive category, with the winner sometimes determined by a vote or two and other deserving drivers left behind. This year, the votes proved how competitive this category is. It was clear who got the most votes. But there was a tie for second. In order to honor our voting procedures and the will of all the members, we decided to honor both runner-ups, hence three awards in this category......all deserving and a first for MSPA.
