Coming Soon - 11th Annual GRP Racing Trivia Contest
Greetings race fans. The 11th Annual GRP Racing Trivia Contest is slated to get underway on Saturday January 23, 2010. This year's version will feature action at the mythical MDTR Speedway in three high-powered divisions. The sprint cars will make their 11th contest appearance while the late models will run for the 10th time. The popular modified division will be on hand for their 7th contest. Participants and fans who follow along on Stan Meissner's MDTR Message Board or on Dr. Troy Powers' 20/20 Racing Forum always have a fun time with the contest. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to put together a contest for the super stocks or street stocks this year, so we will go with the three core divisions that have been a part of this winter tradition for many years.
A list of past contest champions in the sprints, late models and modifieds is shown below. Rumor has it that the perennial front-runner in the late models and modifieds, Chris Stepan, will be in Florida during the contest. Mark Schreiner, Kevin Mudrak, Scott Paulson and several others will be looking for the top prize along with the famous Modchaser, John Lackmann. In the sprint car ranks, Ron Haugstad, Todd Boots and Michael Pietrowski have proven to be formidible competitors over the years along with several other front-runners. It is sure to be another tight battle for top bragging rights in the sprint car division in 2010. Last year's champion Michael Pietrowski from Edgerton, Wisconsin donated his $100 first place prize money, and it was awarded to an IRA driver at the Jerry Richert Memorial last September.
Contest promoter GRP is busy at work putting the finishing touches on the questions and photos that will appear in each division. The typical format is for 20 questions and 20 photo IDs for a total of 40 points. GRP usually throws in a very difficult question and/or photo in order to prevent a perfect score, but the competitors continue to hone their contest skills making it more difficult to stump some of them. GRP has a few "tricks" up his sleeve once again for the 11th Annual contest in order to "keep them guessing" as the old saying goes. Several contestants have already hinted they are "tuning up their entries" in hopes of a top finish.
The contest will once again be hosted on Stan's Minnesota Dirt Track Racing website. Flagman Stan will wave the green flag by posting a link to the contest some time on Saturday January 23 on his message board and on the 20/20 Racing Forum, thus kicking off action at the mythical MDTR Speedway for the 11th straight season. The contest will run for one week, concluding at midnight on Saturday January 30. Thanks to all of those who have participated in the past or who have contributed photos for the contest.
