I moved this off the other thread case anyone missed it.
http://disabilitylaw.blogspot.com/2005/02/wheelchair-users-file-26-title-iii.html
"I finally got tired of people discriminating against me and others like me, so I finally did something about it," Lawson said.
That something was filing 26 federal lawsuits in Oklahoma City against businesses and other organizations Lawson claims refuse to comply with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act, which requires that facilities are accessible to people with disabilities.
Lawson's latest target is Oklahoma City, where he has sued officials for not meeting the needs of people with disabilities at state Fair Park.

Okay,
Now that we have access to the complaint, it turns out the resolution would be all total, under $1,000,000. Not 280 million, but 1 million. Resolution means "to resolve" right?
As it states in the document, the ENTIRE fairgrounds was not in compliance, yet not one mention of the speedway itself. WE ALL KNOW THE SPEEDWAY HAS RAMPS RIGHT?
I AM CERTAIN THE SPEEDWAY NEEDS IMPROVEMENTS, but still the smoke and mirrors for the sake of greed looms. A $280 million convention instead of more accesable restrooms and a nicer grade on the ramp....................

Ok, so the City of Oklahoma City was sued and lost a Lawsuit for not being ADA compliant at the State Fair Park. I have read the Court Documents and no where does it specifically point out the Grandstands, the Law Suit covers the entire Fair Park and it's facilities. That is to inculde all Buildings and Structures located within the State Fair Park.
So why is the Grandstands being singled out.
If it looks like.... smells like....and it taste like our City Government/State Fair Board it must be Horse Manure.

As I understand the order, they had 5 years to comply and are 3 years into that period now. Have other upgrades been make to other buildings? And why didn't they start any at the grandstand? The suit included all the complex and so did the estimate. Shouldn't the city be accountable for providing the sourse and amount of the estimate related to the grandstand only?

This has been brought up in earlier posts however, it's good someone else is asking the same questions.

The ramps in the Fairgrounds Arena are as steep or possibly steeper than the ones at the Speedway....are they within ADA compliance?

And I believe they were done recently. Like within the last 5 years. ??? Not too sure. But still, I don't believe the whole BS story on this deal. Just believe they are tired of the nieghbors calling and complaining about the beautiful sound of engines at the speedway. Hell, I live within 100 yards of the RR tracks in Edmond. It's so loud that I think I will ask them to move the tracks or shut down the operation completely. I'm sure the tracks are uncompliant with some hidden law......

Some other reading....Just says these things were part of the ADA mandate. The big thing that I see in all of them is the improvements are being paid with hotel/motel tax money.
Something else interesting I found...The election for mayor will be held March 2, 2010. 2 months from today,
Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett will have at least one opponent in March’s mayoral election.
Filing for the mayor’s election will be Jan. 27-29. Voters will go to the polls March 2 to vote on the mayor’s race.
OKC voters approve increase in hotel/motel occupancy tax
The resounding Yes vote - 22,761 to 2,695 - for an increase in Oklahoma City's hotel/motel occupancy tax will mean:
* Visitors to the city will pay 5.5 percent occupancy tax on their rooms, up from 2 percent. This is the first increase in the hotel/ motel occupancy tax in 30 years.
* The revenue generated by the increase, estimated to be $4.5 million annually, will fund $55 million in much-needed improvements to horse show venues at State Fair Park.

If they close down the speedway because of ADA compliance I hope someone brings a lawsuit against the rest of the fairgrounds buildings that are not in compliance.
