If you've got motor and a driver the track separates the men from the boys.

Top5IRA,
You just signed up today and this is your first post?
I assume this has something to do with the recent Charter bashing for trying for a weekly sprint show. You can not compare Charter (Beaver Dam) to the 1/2 mile (Dodge county Fairgrounds)The IRA will most likely always open at Dodge and have the traditional races we all know and look forward to. 1/2 mile tracks are fun. My limited knowledge of the history of racing in Wisconsin had me wondering from the start if Beaver Dam can drum up enough cars for their weekly show. I don't think there will be enough support for it. As far as Beaver Dam the only thing they did I do not like is to get rid of the Jimmy John's sandwiches!

I cant stand the half miles like Dodge county, personally I would rather see a smaller track with passing. The midgets on Beaver Dam probably put on one of the best passing shows around this area.

Some of the best races in this area came from Dodge. Raymond Hensley and Mike Reinke always put on a show there!

The first part of your statement is the problem. There are only 6 to7 guys with the motor to be competitive and it shows.

I like 1/2 miles best. The cars have too much motor for bullrings, I like to see them stretch their legs!

The problem is that neither track has the complete package. Charter is a dust bowl. It has nice facilities, and the racing is really hit or miss.
Dodge is big. Cars can get strung out. It is an older facility, and again the racing is hit or miss.

They get strung out more because or the quality of the driver than the quality of the race track.

no they get strung out because of the cost of the engines in the 6 or 7 cars as stated above! If you cant tell the difference in the sound of the top few runners engines then you must be an idiot, personally I dont think racing should be based on the deepness of your pockets but rather the ability of your driving. I hope the Goodyear tires are harder & loosen up the cars to level out the horsepower a little.

Actually my Kriner -12 motor won there against the GB headed motors so before you call someone an idiot you should get your head out of your butt and know what really goes on. Watch the flames come out of the exhaust by the flag stand.....hear them lift by the pit entrance in turn three or actually sit your ass in a car and hold that little pedal on the right down so it goes fast.
FYI my Kriner -12 headed motor also ran 6th in the WoO show at Plymouth with Joe Roe driving so your intelligence is showing. It's not all motor, it's talent or lack of it also.

top5ira (charter)beaverdam speedway is a pisshole compared to many tracks in wisconsin. there are better track such as wilmot.plymouth. manitowoc. because of track surface and how the track is prepared. the old now gone sante fe speedway was better track. the now gone hales corners speedway was abetter track even though it was very dusty. dodge county 1/2 mile has a better surface and is prepared better

Dodge County is all motor, balls, and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. If you go to the races it is the same cars in the front there. Not a test of a drivers ability. Go to Charter, Wilmot, Plymouth, or any track that the driver has to use driver throtttle control you are gonna see a good race. Of course everyone has there own opinion.

My two cents--I'm taking a different approach to this topic. How neat is it to have these two quite different style dirt tracks (both offering Open Wheel Racing) within four miles of each other? I say support one or the other (or both) and realize the great situation we're offered in that area of Wisconsin. Many places have no dirt Open Wheel Racing requiring local fans to travel great distances to see OW racing. Considering Angell Park Speedway in Sun Praire is within 30 miles of Beaver Dam we really have great opportunties for OW racing. In this economy it's important to support (as much as you can afford) one or all of our local tracks.

I respect your opinion but let me toss this into the mix....Put Goeden, Reinke, Scotty, Balog, orTravis in a car that normally runs in the rear and I'll bet you that car is now a front runner too.
Dodge is a huge test of driver ability. You are going so fast the line between winning and junked is incredibly small. That is one of the reasons for the differences in speed. Some guys know they are not that good and know better than to try and find that edge. Anyone can be a winner at a slow joint like Wilmot because you can make mistakes and not junk it. On the big ole halves one error and it's over. If you look back in time a lot guys that win at a slow place likeWilmot never win anywhere else even fast short tracks.
I raced a lot more on the 1/4's than the 1/2's and I'll tell you what......The 1/2 miles are an adrenaline rush like no other and separate the men from the boys. Dodge takes big balls, a ton of talent and yes money too, but they all take money. Way too much money. That is why the talent poll is dwindling so badly. The racer that made the sport was it is can no longer afford it so we end up with some people that have more money than talent and the racing has suffered.
With all this said I like watching the 1/4's better for the racing but watching the big ole 1/2's still give the rush unlike anything else.

Kool Trikes I agree with what you said. I have been to and raced and watched racing on many different size tracks. The big tracks the cars get to far strung out. As far as watching it is not very exciting other then the pure talent and speed it takes to win on the big tracks. It costs SO much to race and be able to win now. Not like the old days. I do not care if you are a guy running around the back right now or a front runner. It is expensive. Badger Boy you are right on. We are lucky to have as many tracks so close to us with good racing programs going on. The best race nights to go to are when the IRA and BADGER hook up. Especially the shows at Charter. We have lost enough tracks in this country so we are lucky to have what is left. Support your local track even if it is asphalt. But dirt is where the racing is at.
