I remember on top of the light stand in turn two is some species of hawk. This hawk is there in spring and throughout the racing season. It has been there for years. In spring it raises it's young on the nest on top of the light stand. It is a sight to see with it coming and leaving the nest during the evening daylight racing hours. I don't know if the hawk is a protected species or not or if destroying the track would be against Oklahoma Game Laws. Perhaps this situation with this hawk and destroying the track and OK game laws could help our cause? Comments?

Its a red tail hawk. As long as there is no nest with live young then they can take the poles down. It is kinda like the same situation that was going on at the old all sports stadium

Erich I remember at Harold Leep Jr.'s memorial sevice seeing the hawk. It was cool because just as the service ended, the hawk flew slowly over the speedway.

I do remember someone saying that the powers to be couldn't remove it because of it being protected!

Just found this interesting!!! May help!

All migratory birds, which includes all hawks, owls, eagles, "songbirds" and all other birds except resident game birds, house sparrows and starlings are protected by federal and state law. House sparrows and starlings are the only birds that are not protected by either federal or state law.

This was found under the protected & endangered species section for Oklahoma!

I love the enthusiasm, but you've gotta remember, those laws are only meant to prevent you or me from building or doing something we want to do, not to stop City Hall from doing what they want to do.

But keep thinking. Somebody will stumble on to something. Ancient burial grounds? Hey, for most of us, racing is a religion. Can we claim this as a Holy Site? I suspect that like most of you, my racing attendance record is better than my church attendance record.

Just trying to find a loop-hole HM!!! There is one somewhere to stop these money hungry politians. MAPS3 passed under a smoke screen with not laying all the facts on the table, land to be purchased for MAPS3 owned by Kirk Humphries, Mick Cornett to be hired by the MAPS3 committee after he leaves office, etc., etc. How many millions do you think these guys are going to pocket?

Plus Mick was said to say that SFS would be around at least 2 more years! I work at the airport & he came in to talk to us when he 1st got elected & I personally asked him then about SFS & he told me that SFS wasn't going anywhere! Now closing the track because of an eletrical problem is a piss poor excuse. That is City owned property & should be repaired by the City, by City electricians on City payroll.

I'll get off my soapbox now but it really gets under my skin reading & listening to all the naysayers!!!!
