Ocean Speedway signs Taco Bravo as title sponsor for Ocean 360 Sprint Car Series
By Gary Thomas
Watsonville, CA – December 22, 2009…Long-time San Jose area restaurant and business Taco Bravo has signed a two-year deal with the Ocean Speedway to become the official title sponsor of the Ocean Sprint Car Series.
The partnership brings with it a historical aspect for what should be an exciting year of competition in 2010. "We're thrilled to have Dennis Wuollet and Taco Bravo come on board as the sponsor for the Ocean Sprint Car Series," said Ocean Speedway promoter John Prentice. "Taco Bravo has a lot of history in this area and has been involved in sprint car racing for a long time so it seems like a natural fit."
Taco Bravo has been a staple in the area for a number of years featuring locations in Campbell, San Jose and Fremont. Taco Bravo has also supported multiple drivers and teams throughout the years, most recently being seen on the sprint cars driven by Gilroy's Kurt Nelson and San Martin's "Cowboy" Craig Smith, as well as the 4-banger driven by San Jose's Joey Batts among others.
The Ocean Sprint Car Series brought to you by Taco Bravo is coming off a banner year that saw strong car counts, great competition and featured eight different winners in 13 races. In the end Easton's Tommy Tarlton narrowly defeated two-time track champion Brent Kaeding of Campbell by just 12-digits for his first career title at the speedway. Tarlton will be officially crowned as the 2009 Ocean 360 champion at the Cocoanut Grove Ballroom in Santa Cruz on January 16 during the Ocean Speedway Awards Dinner.
In 2010 the Ocean 360 Sprint Cars will see 15-nights of total racing, with 13 of them being contested at the Ocean Speedway, as well as one each at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway and the Santa Maria Speedway. Opening night is slotted for Friday April 2 at Ocean Speedway.

AWESOME! Now I really have to find a way to get back there since Dennis is on board. I haven't been there since Jason Meyers ran over BK during a GSC show (how long ago was that?) which was the week after he ran over TK at Chico.

Oddly enough Chris I think that was the last time I was there as well. I will find a way to support Taco Bravo even though we don't have one here. Maybe when I get down to Tulare. May even try to find a way to get to Ocean.
I must say here that I gave Mr. Prentice a lot of crap in the beginning but he did do exactly what he said he was going to do and I give him props for that. He has put together one heck of a Sprint series down there and is expanding it to other tracks now. Good job John. Now if only we could get someone with your commitment at Kings.

As a fan of Sprint Car racing why wouldn't you make plans to be at the OPENER at Watsonville this year?

What is this some kind of challenge? Alright Greg I'll be at the opener and based on your post I'm assuming you'll be there. Since you ONLY have to travel from Anticrotch I'll make you a deal: I'll pay your way in and mine but you have to buy me beer all night long. Let's just see who comes out ahead on that deal.....:-).....

as a couple of sprint car fans why don't you take some of that beer money and trot it up to GT in the announcers booth and start a donation that might end up being enough for a tire and have it go to maybe the tenth place or even last place A main finisher. i'm not saying it is the responcibility of the fans to provide that to the racers, just noting that in these times there are many low buck local teams that are on a thin budget that still do all they can to help support the series and provide entertainment to the fans. those teams give a lot to the sport and most of the time get very little in return. it would be nice to see them getting something back. i just don't see enough look'in out for the little teams these days. but if it is more important to support the beer stand than the teams, i hope you are not driving.

I have no idea how this became more than just a joke aimed at Greg and a "dis" directed at Antioch. The only other point I guess is that some of us would have to drive the better part of 3-1/2 hours (instead of the 5 minutes to Silver Dollar were they to have a show on the same night) to take in any show at Watsonville. Mark my words, however, I will be at the opener at Watsonville to finally check it out. As far as paying my way in John, and I think Carwash would feel the same, pick out a family with a kid or two and give my ticket to them.

nothing personal mike, didn't mean for it to be taken as such by anyone. i know the beer buying comment was good natured fun, and john puts any proceeds to good use, be it from beer, tickets, or otherwise. still i know how hard teams work and the costs required to compete. remember that when you pay for your ticket, and sit down to watch the show, the people going through the gate on the other side of the track are paying almost three times as much for their ticket to put on that show. i am not complaining, just pointing out that it would be nice to keep some of the low buck teams in mind and find ways to toss them some beans. you have been around this game and know how good a little help feels when it can be gotten. of course without cutting too deep into john's beer money! lol.

I enjoyed my first ever visit there in Sept. and am looking forward to going back. Nice little facility, wish it were closer to home.
