INNOVATION would bring the fans back to Indy Racing? Innovation would excite the sports writers? Innovation in the form of a 10 mpg 4-cylinder engine is gonna do that? This guy ought to get a different hobby.

Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

With that size of an engine, they would HAVE to take the wings off. Otherwise any idiot could easily flatfoot any track, and there would be NO passing.

Maybe without wings the cars will be driven by the best drivers instead of the highest bidders.

According to Millers article, the new IndyCars with a 10 mpg 4-cylinder engine would "Maintain the safety integrity, and speeds of the past decade", and also "Drastically reduce the cost".
Bowlby's hobby sounds pretty good to me.

Amen. The only problem... they will have to get a bunch of different drivers to compete.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

The way I read it, it looks to be just another spec car with no innovation at all by the individual teams, with no deviation from the original design. If they want to put innovation back into it, they need to do what F1 did a number of years back. Set a basic set of parameters for the car, and then let the teams do what they want with "their areas". The engine idea is a good one IMO. Getting away from a stressed engine is a great way to cut some major costs. Those who think that a 4 cylinder can not produce the power, need to move into the 1990's. F1 is running a normally aspirated 2.4 liter V8...Let me repeat...2.4 Liter.....And they are putting out around 850hp...Normally aspirated.....

at last someone comes along with an exelent idea on how to put indy car out of it's misery once and for all. the excesses of racing is what has always made racing interesting. taking something and pushing it past it's breaking point IS racing. not catering to the green weenies. cart ruined indy racing by implementing maximum fuel allowances for races to try to fool the public into thinking they were conserving resources. the darn cars ran on methanol that is made with natural gas, which was and still is over abundant. the only change indy car needs to make with the cars is to take all the computors and crap off of them, go back to mechanical fuel injection, and race on ovals. 4 cylinder offies ran good so i don't care about how many cylinders the thing has. getting some talent behind the wheel would help too. you have maybe 4-5 drivers that have any talent. dario, dixon, helio, tony k, brisco. that's it. the rest of them can't run 5 laps next to each other. i like indy car racing, but it has been f'd up and i don't see a conservitive approach helping it. indy car has become rife with gimmicks. the latest gimmick was ethanol. ethanol as an afforable alterantive commercial auto fuel is a joke. vehichles running on E85 get 20% LESS mpg than useing gasoline. how is economy gaged in this country regarding fuel? by fuel milege! it used to be gaged by how much the fuel cost. ethanol is niether cheeper nor better in milege. obama has been pushing mandates for higher fuel milege vehichles. that pretty much leaves out ethanol. so what is the indy car series going to change it's fuel to next when the idea of ethanol grows old? the idea of electrical cars is thought to be great. plug them in and recharge them. that electricity has to come from somewhere. we are being told we have to conserve electricity as it is now because we can't produce enough to meet our demands. yet we are going to add more need by plugging in cars? how much will that raise the cost of electricity when it becomes a motor fuel. it would be like useing water. the price would skyrocket. you have to keep the resources that you use for motor fuel separate from the resources you use for life support. at least until there becomes such an abundance of that resource that there is no conflict.

to indy and beyond!!
