The 2009 season of the Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series (UMSS) will be
celebrated at its inaugural banquet on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at
ProKart Indoors in Burnsville, Minnesota. First ever season champion,
Leigh Thomas, will be recognized along with others. Everyone is
invited.
Festivities will get under way at 4:30 with a happy
hour/meeting to discuss the 2010 UMSS season. Dinner will be at 6:00
with the awards to follow. Tickets are $25 for ages 13 and older; $10
for ages 6-12; and free for those 5 and under.
The theme is
"Beat the Pros" as each $25 ticket purchased will include an 8-10
minute go-kart session at the end of the night. Sprint car drivers,
past and present, will be matched up with fans, pit crew and family
members to have their chance to "beat the pros." Attendees will also
be able to purchase additional go-kart time.

Don't care what anyone says,,, that's funny!!!!!! I'm sure that the 5 minutes will be based on car,,, ummm kart count LMAO!!!!!!!!
Except for the session I am in Brian. That session will need to run 15 minutes in order for me to complete the same number of laps as most others will in 8-10 minutes unless of course they gave me a head start of say, five laps. I would even elect to start in the tail of the field if they do that.
Hey Stan, you gonna risk the titanium neck on the track for a return to the kart wars? We sure did have a lot of fun during those 20/20 Pro Kart Nights for several years. The 20/20 deal grew way bigger than it was supposed to and got ultra competitive near the end. The final night we had close to 100 show up. Our UMSS deal should be scaled way back from those events. It's going to be a fun time racing, or in my case attempting to race, karts against some of the sprint car guys. I hope I draw Joe Kouba, Joseph Kouba, Jimmy Kouba, Chuck P, Brian Madsen, Steiny, etc. for my race. That way those guys might not lap me too many times in the 8-10 minutes. Now if I have to go against an excellent kart racer like Anna Kouba in my race, we'll have to take bets on how many laps down I finish.
The trophies are under construction for our banquet on January 23. I met with Dallas at Classic Awards last Saturday. I think we designed some real nice trophies for the UMSS, including a special travelling champions trophy in addition to a permanent champions trophy and 2nd-5th in the points plus GRP Motorsports Rookie of the Year trophy. Throw in some nice appreciation plaques and that should take care of the hardware portion of the awards ceremony.
We're going to have a fun night at Pro Kart Indoors in Burnsville on January 23 for the UMSS banquet followed by an evening of kart racing and bench racing.

I want to be paired up in a race with Stan. Think you can get a picture of me when I pass you?
Stan can probably snap a photo of you lapping me should you happen to draw the same race. With a one lap headstart, I can usually hang in there until the midway point of the race, then the leaders will have caught up to me by that time. If we could line up a fat guy/old fart race, I might stand a chance to finish on the lead lap of that one......assuming it's only one or two laps long.

It's awfully tempting but I'm going to have to think about it.

A couple of other points to make regarding the kart racing the night of the UMSS banquet that I observed during our popular 20/20 Pro Kart Nights we held for several years.
1. You can print the waiver release form ahead of time by going to their website and clicking on the "download waiver" link at the bottom of their home page. That way a person can have it filled out ahead of time and just turn it in at the sign-in desk. A link to their website is listed below.
2. You can bring your own racing helmet along to use. Many participants do indeed bring their own helmets instead of using the ones they have at Pro Kart.
It should be a blast on the evening of January 23, as we celebrate the inaugural 2009 UMSS season, chat about the upcoming 2010 season, award some trophies, grab a bite to eat, and then do some kart racing to round out the evening. Classic Awards will be delivering the UMSS trophies for the top five drivers, Rookie of the Year, and a very special travelling champions trophy to me some time next week. I'm anxious to see how they look. Can't wait for Jan 23 to roll around!
By the way, if they have an old farts or "fat guys" race, I should be able to stay on the lead lap in that one. lol
I forgot to add that I will be putting up a few special cash prizes for fastest lap, slowest lap, and a few other notable things that take place during the kart racing portion of the evening. Just adding a little extra to the evening probably like $25 each or something like that for a person to earn back their banquet "entry fee." We're going to have a fun time, and that is what the idea behind this evening is all about.

Is there going to be a race for 210 pounders with no racing ability that I can enter?
That would be my heat race. Don't worry, it's all about having fun but I think we can make sure a couple of us "backmarkers" can draw the same heat so we can at least race against each other when not getting lapped by the faster kart racers.
