2010 Thunderbowl Raceway schedule details

By Gary Thomas

Tulare, CA – December 11, 2009…The 2010 racing schedule for the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway has been released and shows one of the more diverse calendar of events the 1/3 mile clay oval has seen in recent years.

The action-packed season for the special-events track will kick-off on March 5 and 6 with a double-header featuring the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. Joining the "Greatest Show on Dirt" for the Friday night portion of the weekend will be the West Coast Wingless 360 Sprint Car Series and on Saturday it will be the West Coast Late Models.

In addition to competing on opening night during World of Outlaw weekend the West Coast 360 Sprinters will also be in competition at the Thunderbowl on April 3, April 10, May 15 and a special two-night show on October 1 and 2 billed as the inaugural "Tulare Fall Spectacular." For the double-header weekend the wingless sprints will be running the Trophy Cup format, which also came with strong approval from Trophy Cup founder Dave Pusateri. Info on the Tulare Fall Spectacular, including purse structure and more will be released as the time nears.

Continuing to play a major role at the 1/3 mile clay oval will be the Western States Modifieds who will be in action at the track on April 3, April 10, May 1, May 15, May 22, May 30, as well as the Tulare Fall Spectacular on October 1 and 2.

The Golden State Challenge King of California 410 Sprint Car Series will invade the Thunderbowl for two nights this coming season, with those dates being April 10 and May 15.

Other single night highlights on the schedule during the early part of the season will include the West Coast Late Models headlining the bill on May 1, while the GLR Investments 360 Winged Sprint Car Series will be in competition at the Thunderbowl for the first time on May 22. The USAC/CRA Wingless 410's will also convene at the Tulare County Fairgrounds facility on Sunday night May 30 for the "Salute to Indy."

The always popular Trophy Cup will return to the Thunderbowl Raceway on October 22 and 23 for the 17th edition of the exciting winged 360 sprint car event. This past season saw San Jose's Tim Kaeding make history by becoming the first driver to ever win the Saturday night main event from the 24th starting position, in what was arguably the greatest race seen all year.

The Pacific Coast Nationals will be back in 2010 after making its debut at the Thunderbowl Raceway this past year, however, the format will be slightly different as it will now be a single night show on November 13. Adding to the excitement though will be the addition of the USAC National Midget Series, who will run alongside the USAC National and USAC/CRA 410 Sprint Cars for the evening.

Is the new West Coast 360 wing series the same as the cars that run at Santa Maria & Kings .... or is it the spec non-wing cars that run at Chico, Petaluma, Ocean ........

Nice to see a support class with the WoO for the March dates.

The West Coast Sprints is the same series that runs at Santa Maria, Kings, etc. and they are injected non wing 360's. Last year it was the Bandit's that sanctioned races at Tulare and now it will be the West Coast 360 Sprint Cars.

A bit of info on them can be found at http://scrafan.com/wc360s/main.html

Oakland Sprint Fan,

Basically, just take the wings off and you have a West Coast 360. They are not Spec Sprints.

Cover your beer, the race is on!

I for one am not real happy about having to sit through a support class to watch the WoO compete at Tulare. In particular, Saturday's show with late models... are you kidding me? Hell I'd gladly pay a higher ticket price to not have to sit through that.

I will not pay what they want now for a WoO show, overpriced in my opinion.

I don't know why you guys are complaing about more racing! I highly doubt the price will be any higher because of a supporting class. I'm all for it, the more racing I get to see in one night the better. I say ITS ABOUT TIME!!

Got word there is a slight change to opening weekend as we will have the Late Models running on Friday with the West Coast 360's on Saturday. The World of Outlaws will still be running both nights as the headliner.

You know I am as diehard a sprint car fan as most anyone here but the latemodels at Tulare are gonna be a good show. I watched Mike Kirby (ex sprint car driver) tear it up at Santa Maria this past season in a late model and it was some of the best racing I have seen over the year. No I dont like late models more than sprints but they do put on some great racing and besides the WoO shows at Tulare seem to get finished up too quick most the time. I think the track will be racier with the extra division and not a single file hooked up deal come feature time.

These are not 4 bangers or factory bombs were talking about here... try and enjoy the show. :-)

Couldn't have said it better myself the show often does get over to early and thats no fun. I like to enjoy much racing as possibe, while I perfer sprintcars, I also really enjoy the Late Models they put on a great show, we should only cherish the racing we do get to see here with the often threat of tracks and series going under.
