DOHC CYLINDER HEADS
Any one out there besides Me, think they should be legal for all sprint cars?
Thanks,
Don Flanders

They were legal at one time. Then Fords starting going way faster than the other guys so they are not allowed now. Yes they should be legal at premier sprint car races. The coolest diecast models of all time are the OHC GMPs.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

Moser engineering made those twin cam heads for the small block back in the seventies, I saw them more on street rods than sprintcars though

I believe it would increase cost of the motor.

That's a great idea if you can only use a V8 with DOHC that comes from a passenger car. No changing of bore and stroke and no welding on cylinder heads. In other words Stock Block and Heads. Can you say innovation and computers.

I'm partial to the DOHC 4V configuration (hence my user name). retrofitting a small block chevy seems like a mistake to me. Solid DOHC 4V production V8s are everywhere. Toyota and some other manufacturers have had good production units for 10+ years. The DOHC 4V V8 in the old Ivan Stewart trucks was a TRD version of the UZ series V8, which same in 4.3L (aluminum block) and 4.7L (iron block). UZ V8s have bulletbroof Y style blocks with cross bolted 6 bolt mains. They would need stronger cranks and rods but easily could be incredible race motors. Thats just one example that Im familiar with, others exist. They could be viable... Sanctioning bodies need to embrace it if will take hold. Instead they stick to the status quo, and we have crazy purpose built pushrod midget 4 bangers, and new purpose built versions of pushrod V8s that have never sat in the frame rails of anything from mopar, chevrolet, or toyota. Toyota has not sold anything with pushrods other than forklift engines for decades in the USA, but TRD has pushrod 4 cylinders and V8s available.. Seems silly to me.

Why do you want to make everyones current legal 50k 410 engines obsolete? Change the rules and cost everybody money- and you talk about saving racers money?

This was more of a theoretical discussion than a practical one. It's interesting to think about, but nothing will change, I know that. In 10 years, the engines will still be pushrod V8s, just way more expensive, and the purses will not be significantly different. Think Im wrong, look back 10 years..
