Here's a question, why did Travis Whitney switch from number 7s to 9? I know it's been 8 or 10 years since he ran the 7s, but I always wondered why he changed. As far as I know both were family rides that the Whiteny's funded themselves. Looking at the post over on the main Hoseheads page about what rides we miss seeing on the track made me think about how I kind of miss the 7s. Can anybody help me on this?

I posted this question on Lori's facebook page. Maybe her or Travis will stop by here and give us the full scoop.

I've tried to come up with some big, exciting story as a reason for the change, but I'm not feeling very creative today.
The truth is that when Travis and Walt bought the first car back in '93, it was 7s and it never got changed. Once all of the 7s equipment was sold in '99, and Travis and Walt decided to start up again a year later, it was more of an identity change than anything else. Starting fresh. There's no mystical reason for the number 9 either - just trying to come up with something that wasn't everywhere and didn't require a letter every time we showed up at a track!
Sorry if that's boring, but that's the story!

I can now rest easy once again, thank you! Even though there's no juicy, tabloid worthy story behind it, I at least know why.
