Sands Chevrolet Southwest Championships honoring Rick Stewart will pay sprint winner $3000.
Southwest Championships promoter Steve Dunn said, "due to the Support from Sponsors like Sands Chevrolet, Allscapes, Dave Ellis Race Cars, Piggly's BBQ and Grill, A.M.E. Electrical Contracting Inc., Arizona Race Mart, and ABC Motorsports we are increasing the sprint car feature winners pay to $3000. Support for this event that will also honor the life of sprint car and midget builder Rick Stewart has been strong and by next year if all goes well it will become the premier non wing race in the state of Arizona, says Dunn. The co-featured midget race will be the final race of the "National Midget Driver of the Year Championship" of 2009 and will crown their champion at Canyon Speedway Park Saturday night. The Midget winner will earn $2000 for winning the 35 lap feature this Saturday night. At last Saturday's midget race at Ventura Speedway 45 midgets took the green and many are expected to make the tow to Canyon Speedway Park for this weekend's Southwest Championship. The final piece to the puzzle will be the 35-40 mod midgets/mini sprints that will battle for the $750 to win main event Saturday night. Open practice will be held tomorrow November 25, at 6: oo P.M. and will last until 10: oo P.M. A pot luck dinner (turkey's to be provided by Piggly's bbq) will be held Thursday starting at 3:00 P.M with a band playing live music starting around 4:00. Racing on Friday and Saturday will start Friday and Saturday at 7:15 with the front gates opening at 4:00 both days. For any questions regarding the Sands Chevrolet Southwest Championships go to CanyonSpeedwaypark.com or contact Steve Dunn at 602-318-0437

It's sure good to see the local boy's over here, and in Cali (Victorville, Ventura) get some things going on their own. I'll sure be there.

21, maybe 22 Sprinters, a full field of modified midget's, but only 12 full Midgets for friday night. That Brad Loyet can sure wheel a Midget, just ask RJ Johnson and Johnathan Henry who followed him across the line.
The track was not pretty nice, it was great! They dug up the old track and reconfigured it, and it was the best track I'd seen out there in years.
racinround.. I'm sure glad to see you signed up to this forum, who ever you are... All the insightful information you seem to have will be something we all will be looking forward to in the future.

BIGFISH.....By no means was it my intention dis, or step on anyones toes. I guess I was just disappointed that the car count did'nt quite live up to expectations. Everyone that worked on the rebuild of the track should be proud of the finished product, Thank You. I agree with you that it is the best it's been in years. Pretty darn racy

I'm sure no one feels as disappointed as everyone who worked so long and hard to try and bring us a good show this weekend. Personal, I was as disappointed at the fan turnout for the Friday show, as I was for the Midget car count and our local no shows in the Sprints... I did notice that the Boat clan was all there, and Yeley's cars were out on the track. Now if the fans were as interested in supporting our sport as much as those families, we'd be in good shape.
Oh, Chad was in Yeley's sprinter..I didn't ask..LOL

Big Fish I am from South Dakota but come to the desert in the fall every year.
I have an idea for getting the locals to come to Canyon Just advertise that the
road to get to the track is PAVED just about all the way there. I have a friend that used to race out there and he said he didn't know that they had fixed the road . I was impressed with the road having been to most of the Slick 50 races. And the races were very good friday nite. Didn't get to go Sat. Is there some where that the results are posted?
Any way I will be back.

Hi Bob, every time I drive down that road, I think about what those guy's driving in there for the first time during that slick 50 deal must have been thinking. They must have thought someone had played a bad joke on em.
This is Robbie Allen's site, he owns the #12 that Nathan high drives.. http://www.abcmotorsports.com/index.htm, go to the forum section (message board) for results at this time, but as you can see from the opening page, it has a lot of info for all the open wheel stuff here in AZ. I'm sure there will be pictures and more info to come.
