Sands Chevrolet Southwest Championships to Honor the life of Rick Stewart

The inaugural Sands Chevrolet Southwest Championships that features sprint cars, midgets, and modified midgets/mini sprints will honor the life and career of long time Arizona racer turned race car and hot rod fabricator Rick Stewart November 27, and 28 at Canyon Speedway Park. Rick who lost his long battle with cancer will be on everyone's minds as the expected over 100 entries battle at Canyon Speedway Park for the inaugural Championship that is quickly becoming an important date on the Arizona motor sports calendar. The Southwest Championships will be the final race and will crown the National Midget Driver of the year point champion. Drivers like Brad Kuhn, Brian Clauson, Josh Wise, AJ Felker, Brad Loyet and Cole Whit are expected to battle with Arizona's best midget shoes R.J. Johnson and Nathan High and the rest of the A.M.R.A regulars. Over 40 sprint car teams have expressed interest in coming after the $2500 and still growing 1st place prize money say's Southwest Championships promoter Steve Dunn. We will have a better idea on who will be running the sprint car portion of the Southwest Championships after the running of the Western World Championships at U.S.A. Speedway in Tucson is completed. Dunn commented, "Almost every sprint car driver I talked to in Tucson said they plan on running next week at the Southwest Championship so we know the field will be stellar". Over 35 modified midgets/mini sprints are due to battle for the Southwest Championships and it is certainly shaping up to be a great battle to honor the life of a great man. Canyon Speedway will have a 50/50 drawing and selling t-shirts to help raise funds for the Billy Garrett fund.
