Promising night once again dashed by misfortune
By Gary Thomas
Placerville, CA - March 25, 2007... Chico’s Jonathan Allard came into Placerville Speedway leading the Golden State Challenge Series points and looked to be on his way to a great finish until contact from another car caused front end damage and forced him to pull to a stop.
Jonathan was running a strong third in the feature aboard the Williams Motorsports, GT Trends, K & N Filters, Red Line Oil No. 0 and was right on the back bumper of the top two cars when Brandon Wimmer slid beneath him under the flag stand and contacted his left front. Jonathan slowed to a stop in the second corner to bring out a caution. The crew fixed the damage and Jonathan got back out for the restart. The track had been extremely difficult to pass on all night and JA had his work cut out for him to get back up as high as he could. He stayed out of trouble the rest of the race and drove hard to get back up to 10th by the finish, which made it so he didn’t take as big of a hit in the points as what could have been.
Jonathan has been extremely quick at the last three races but separate incidents of misfortune have taken away chances at stronger finishes. The team has been performing very well and have had the Kistler powered J & J running strong each night.
JA has lost the GSC point lead but next weekend the series goes to the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway, which is one of Jonathan’s best tracks. JA has won twice in his career at the Thunderbowl and always runs well at the track. He goes into the night second in the standings trailing Oroville’s Sean Becker by seven points.
Look for Williams Motorsports to be at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico on Friday night as well for the first round of point race competition.
