This thread must have jinxed him...he had a rough night and some bad luck, look for him to be up front Saturday night. I think he'll be around for a a while, he loves open-wheel competition and likes running anything and everything. He won't even turn 18 for over half a year. Keep watchin him gain experience and get better every race.

I hear ya...lol. Though I don't think Ricky Stenhouse Jr was hurting in the financial aid department either?
Perhaps his most ardent supporter is his father, Yale Conley, himself a veteran of the ASA late-model circuit. The father, like the son, is competitive, focused and committed to what it takes to win. "We're fortunate to this point to have been able to provide Cale with the best car, the best engines and the best crew chief in the business. That's as far as money can take us, however, and the rest is up to Cale."

Yeah I bet most of the other young guns that show up and compete with the outlaws don't have any money at all, lol. He's proved he can race without the best equipment too, he's turned some heads in the USAC division in rental cars, definitely not top of the line equip. I respect him for going and puttin it all on the line in several types of cars, and not just getting comfortable with only a Wing.

Trust me I know Ricky Stenhouse jr. He ran in his dad's car to first get recognized. O and his dad couldn't buy a sick dog supper.

I have seen Cale and Ricky both race in person a number of times. I do not think that Cale is at Ricky's level quite yet. I was at a number of races the year Ricky just took over Ohio Sprint Speed Week and he was amazing. He was racing on track that he had never seen before and won 3 nights of Speed Week. He would have won the Speed Week title if it was for a flat tire and a dominating run by Dale Blaney at Eldora. The list of Guys that have come out of nowhere to dominate Speed Week is very short and includes names like Steve Kinser and Sammy Swindell. I do think that Cale is a great up and coming talent in 410 winged sprint cars and will win many races and titles but not at the level of Ricky yet.

Cale has not had a whole lot of success in the USAC realm yet. I'm not sure how you can upgrade much from Scott Benic and Keith Kunz, though...? I'm interested to see how he'll do from here, but the going has been tough for him so far. I guess he'll be out to run Phoenix, Tulare, Tucson, and Irwindale, so we'll get some more good looks at him.
He's definitely a great kid and isn't afraid to go fast. I'd have to think he'll get things figured out pretty quickly with the kind of teachers he'll have on his side. Best of luck to him in Charlotte tonight!

I always feel the best way to gauge a drivers real talent is to put him in a substandard car with a second rate crew chief and then see what they can do with the race car. Those that have the goods will make a piece of crap shine and those that need top notch equip., great setup etc will choke.
Cheers!
