Here is something fun to do over the long winter months to help hone your driving skills.

This Blue Motor class, recently formed, already has over 22 entries in Oklahoma and more from Kansas and Texas. No Age restriction, races for 100% payback of entry fees paid to top 4 legal finishers. This class utilizes a spec low budget engine that comes of of the box complete with ignition, starter, carburetor, fuel tank, exhaust system, available at Harbor Freight.

This popular class runs in the AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals Indoor Short Track Series at the OK Corral Indoor Arena in Harrah, Oklahoma. Next race November 21, 2009. http://ampown.com

Question from Kansas:

I am from Winfield, Kansas. Wanting to come down in Dec, Jan, Feb and race my clone kart.

We race on 1/5 mile track and gear 18/17 - 60's.

Can I get by with a 12 tooth driver at the indoor track? If so how big of a rear gear will I need?

As for our engines, Blue Harbor Freight "Greyhound". They are out of the box, sealed, stock muffler, aircleaner, and gas tank.

Actually there may be 2 or 3 of us come down.

Thanks ...

Answers from Southern Built Racing in Oklahoma:

My name is Bobby Lowry.

I own 8 Clone Karts here in OKC.

Gearing for these Karts for the Indoors is 12 Tooth Countershaft - 67t to 69t Rear. we even have a couple that pull 13t Countershaft sprockets with about a 71t rear.

We will be attending all the AMP races and we have plenty of gear combinations to loan anyone who comes down, whatever they might need. we will be glad to help.

We also run the Harbor Freight motors with the addition of a custom header pipe and pulse-pumps for remote fuel tanks.

Torrey Keller came down from Kansas and was running the exact setup and he ran really well finishing 2nd in the Main.... which by the way paid $80.00 that night.

We are putting together a nice program down here and we look forward to traveling up to Kansas in the upcoming months.

We would also like to talk to you about your replacement seals on Motors....We would like to go to that also.

Feel free to contact me anytime. 405-802-7726.

Look forward to seeing you soon. ....

Southern Built Racing

Where can you find photos of these karts and how much do they cost? Does anyone have a couple for sale or know where to look for them? Looking into the mini cup class but would like to see what these karts are all about. Thanks.

Most look like the majority of flat karts with molded plastic nose and body parts that run at the Tulsa Shootout.

Call these two fellows for technical information, pricing and where to buy:

Most are older Margay and Shadow Oval Track chassis found on Ebay. Majority use the front nose plastic like the ones that run at the Shootout.

They have been buying them for around $350, some complete rollers missing some hardware. Check with Lahmyers Kart Shop on Madison in Tulsa, or Jim Stroud with MISI, or Dave Bradley with Bradley Racing in Tulsa.

"Saw a couple on ebay yesterday...Racing Kart in Ebay motors....150.00 buy it now for a late 90's Shadow Oval Kart with Body....I know from experience you are looking at 200.00+ in shipping with Yellow frieght. Still 350.00 aint bad."

Harbor Freight now has these engines on sale for $105.00. They are also having a big Thanksgiving weekend sale.

Would the blue clone, 50" wheel base cage karts that run El Reno be allowed to run Harrah? Engine rules are the same except air box rule; at El Reno aftermarket foam filters are allowed but I think most people kept their stock air boxes to bolt on for other tracks.
