man if the local, state, and regional drivers support this ..... this could be pretty cool.
solo mods aren't really my thing - but I have a feeling dirt track fans around here should take any quality racing they can get next year.
I would like to ask out of curiosity what the early expectations are for these events? I think this could have a lot of potential - and would like to hear others thoughts on it. Like David Smith, Dogwater, and the many, many modified drivers and team members on this site.
As a true bystander to all things modified lol - I will say I would like to see NCRA involved with something like this - considering the season they had and the potential the series has as a whole. Is there any chance they could be affiliated with this deal?
How much would could a wouldchuck chuck if a
wouldchuck could chuck would

Doing a deal like this is tough on guys without a toter or a big trailer. 6 nights of motel at $70 a night on average plus diesel, and thats just to get there. I for one am going to try to make it but thats some serious $$$.

I wonder if that $125 to start is being overlooked a little bit. Take the $40 entry, add $30 for a pit pass and its only a net of $55 to start an A Feature. We all know you dont make money in this tier of racing but a net of $55 isnt anything to jump up and down about for A Feature cash. I also found it interesting that this series only ran 7 or so races last year. All in and around the "deep south" (Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama). Now the series has only these races posted as their whole schedule for 2010. Makes me wonder why would a promoter have to go farther away from his office to race when these are their only races booked to run for the entire season. Maybe they will post more but based on last years schedule, it makes you wonder.

I agree KOP... It sounds like to me that they are testing the water in Oklahoma. How many Modifieds are there in OK? How many different types of rules are there in Oklahoma for Modifieds? Alot.. It is going to take someone to come into this state and have the time and money to try to unite you guys (mod drivers) in a sanction that would work with a large percentage of the mod drivers in this state. Maybe thats what they (SMP Series) are trying to do? Then you ask don't we already have that in OK? Yes but if you look at it all of the track owners that want to do it there way, and not commit to a sanction run show. And now a day that is not working anymore. Thats why I wish David Smith all the luck in Oklahoma he has been working his butt off trying to establish NCRA in OKLAHOMA. But sometimes the name or the blood sweat and tears are just not enough people are just set in their ways and don't want someone else to have control over their (track owners) race program. So then most of the drivers and fans don't know where they will run or spend their money to go watch a race most weekends. Because everybody is always pissed off at each other (drivers& trackowners) because there are no common rules in Ok.

To answer your questions about why oklahoma they are 3 that are involved in the SMP,2 of us have been hired by the Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) to be the race diretors next year, the other one is Jason Markewitz which is from Oklahoma and is moving back there this winter.Modified are dead in our area the crate late models have took over,we actually had 12 shows at be begging of 2009 season Delta Bowl Speedway in Tunica closed Winchester Speedway in Winchester TN closed and also Duck River Speedway in Wheel,TN Cancled on us due to there low car count. We are looking to have this speedweek type format for years to come we plan on stopping at 15 races by 2012.No hard feeling by any track promoter or racer just in this area modified are a dying breed, sometime today or tomorrow i will post the payout from 1-22 the totoal on the payout is 6585.00 also this year we had 20 contingencies to hand out at the end of the night we hoping for 20 25 for the speedweeks, also there is a 100.00 fast time award each night to the fast qualifiers. And as for the motel situation we are working on a racers discount for the weekend with a couple of franchises.Jason became a huge part of the SMP and it was either end the SMP or come up with a way to keep it alive so we came up with the Sooner Speedweeks.Thank you for your time hope this helps some of your questions.

Thanks for the reply. Most of us that are fans and supporters of racing in Oklahoma would appericate something like this here in our state. But one thing to remember there has been alot of promoters trying to do what you guys are trying to do. Like the Modified show at SFS in 2005 that Terry Phillips won. We as fans were pumped because imop it was a good show and car count from multipable states and then poof for what ever reason it was to be no more.
So bottom line imop if you (SMP) try it in Oklahoma you better have your sh*t together.
But I as a long time fan and supporter of short track racing in this part of the US I would be willing to say good luck, because we have been known as set in our way Red Necks anyway. But it would probably be a neat show and I would pay to see the out come just once if not more. Again good luck..........

14. TIRES/WHEELS: Must use unaltered (no grooving or siping) American Racer (G-60 KK704) or IMCA approved Hoosier G-60's. No softening of tires is allowed. Siping or grooving of tires is allowed. Aluminum or steel spacers only. External, steel bead lock only and it cannot make wheel any narrower than 8" and no wider than 8.75". Must use only steel bolts. ***At tracks where local rules permit...grooving and siping will be allowed. Right front beeadlocks are ok.
Looks like siping and grooving is ok. But just checking?
