O'Reilly/NCRA Sprint Finale This Saturday Night

Championship to be decided

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Midwest City, Oklahoma - October 24, 2009 – After inclement weather ppd. the regularly schedule event two weeks ago, the O'Reilly/NCRA sprint car division will try once again to decide their 2009 season champion as current series points leader Garry Lee Maier of Cimmaron, Kansas leads Zach Chappell of Talala, Oklahoma by a scant twenty points as the series closes out its 20th season this coming Saturday night (October 24) at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas. Also on tap will be a special steak or rib dinner that will benefit the Steve King Foundation.

Maier, a four-time series champion in the 360 sprint car division, looks to make it five titles for himself but first for famed Ochs Brothers #1x based out of Jetmore. The team did win a series championship back in 1979 in the old NCRA super modifieds but that endeavor was a combined effort with Danny King.

However, focused on taking his first ever O'Reilly/NCRA championship Chappell, a 2001 national champion, is primed and focus on winning the title and becoming the first series champion from Oklahoma since Larry Neighbors accomplished the feat back in 1995.

But not to be over looked is reigning series champion Mike Peters out of Wichita. Peters is well aware of tight points battles as he led by a scant 65 points in last year's ('08) points battle and held on to win his second career series championship, first in the sprint car division. Peters will come into the finale with a mathematical chance of winning the championship even though he is 105 points out of the points lead.

J.D. Johnson out of Goddard currently sits a solid fourth in the point standings and if Peters encounters a bad night could easily move into the third position in points.

Former Hutchinson Nationals champion Jon Freeman is solidly in the fifth position entering this weekend.

Other series regulars expected to compete are rookies Patrick and Jeff Stasa (Kingman), Luke Cranston (Plains), A.J. Selenke (Wichita), Steven Richardson (Liberal), Jason Schroeder (Garden City) and Corey Moore (Wichita). Close to thirty drivers are expected for the finale.

But not to be out done, there will be a special steak or rib dinner on Saturday night for $10.00. This event is open to the public from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM and will benefit the Steve King Foundation. If you're interested in partaking in this event, please call the speedway office (316) 755-1781 so that they may get an idea of how many to prepare for.

Gates open at 5:00 PM with green flag racing set to start at 7:00 PM. 81 Speedway is located North of Wichita on I-135 to exit 16, then 0.7 miles west on 77th. All grandstand tickets are $8.00. For more race information, contact the track (316) 755-1781.

The O'Reilly/NCRA is in the midst of their 39th consecutive season of sanctioning dirt track races across the Midwest, including their sprint car, late model, modified, Oklahoma modified and sport modified divisions. For more information on the series, including facts from the past, current race schedules, point standings, driver profiles and more, check them out on the World Wide Web www.ncraracing.org.

The series is now setting up schedules, contingencies and presentation sponsors for next years 40th anniversary. If you're interested in any of the above, please contact the NCRA office (316) 755-1781.

The O'Reilly/NCRA would like to thank the following series sponsors and contingency sponsors on the NCRA sprint car trail for the 2009 race season:

I'd really like to see Zach Chappell pull that off for the 85 team. And Mike Peters is within distance as well - who could root against Peters?

Bet this will be a really good race - albeit a damned cold one! I'm not aware of much else going on this weekend in the upper midwest this weekend - I think I'll pick Chad Humston in the Burch 1m to win.

You gonna go up there David?

It's been damn great seeing same night NCRA results all year - hope those that used to cuss the lack of it on NCRA's forum give you due praise for providing it this year.

I plan on doing I-44 results both friday and saturday. BUT - lol - I'll be honest - it sounds like a really good idea until it's bout 930-1030 and it's damn COOOOLD. once it gets down in the 40's it gets a bit hard to take the gloves off to keep writing lol.

Well OKCfan, word I have is that Zach departed ways with the Danny King owned #E85 team after Devils Bowl last Sunday afternoon. I understand that he will be racing the family owned #50z instead. Not sure if things got worked out afterwards or not since this information was given to me.
