PAST CHAMPION FACES HIS SONS IN BUDWEISER OVAL NATIONALS!
(OCTOBER 20, 2009, PERRIS, CA) Famed West Coast car owners Jack & Sharon Jory have entered three cars in the November 5th, 6th and 7th 14th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals at Perris Auto Speedway. The three car team will include 1997 Oval Nationals champion Rip Williams and his two oldest sons, Cody and Austin.
The patriarch of the trio, Rip, first came to Sprint Car prominence 31-years ago when he was named co-Rookie of the Year in the original CRA in 1978. Since then, the now 53 year-old resident of Yorba Linda has won more than 100 Sprint Car main events and the inaugural USAC/CRA championship in 2004. Earlier this year he was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa.
Rip's oldest son, Cody, 20, was National Sprint Car Hall of Fame co-Rookie of the Year in 2008. He made his Oval Nationals debut in 2008 and won the Saturday night D Main before finishing 15th in the C Main.
Rip's middle son, Austin, who turned 19 earlier this month, is trying to duplicate his brothers Rookie of the Year award in 2009. On October 10th, he duplicated his best finish of the season with a strong 7th at The PAS. He will be making his Budweiser Oval Nationals debut.
Heading into the prestigious Oval Nationals, all of the Williams clan is in the top 15 in the USAC/CRA Series standings. Rip ranks 8th, with sophomore driver Cody – who was nicknamed "Cadillac" after scoring a touchdown while playing high school football and maintains that nickname in racing today – 11th and Austin 13th.
The Budweiser Oval Nationals is three nights of intense, full points paying races for the USAC National Sprint Car Series and the USAC/CRA Series. The Thursday and Friday preliminary nights will include qualifying, heat races, preliminary and A main events. The Oval Nationals will culminate on Saturday the 7th with the final main events of the weekend including the 40-lap Oval Nationals Championship A Main.
