Was reading some history about the WoO today. Back in 1991 they experimented with racing on asphalt, racing on at least 2 different tracks. Sammy Swindell won one night, can't remember who won the other race. The article said all went well. Must have went well enough not to ever do it again? I'm plenty old enough and should remember this but don't. Tried to google it, but no luck. I do remember that the old NCRA series with Aaron Berryhill, Gary Wright, etc, used to make a trip thru the northern midwest, stopping at many dirt tracks as well as at I-94 speedway, a 4/10th mile high banked asphalt track in Sauk Centre, MN

Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

Wolfgang's accident at Lakeside ended the WoO on asphalt experiment.

The World of Outlaws raced on asphalt at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas in 1991 (November 9 won by Mark Kinser, and November 10 won by Sammy Swindell), and in 1992 at Charlotte County Speedway in Florida (February 10 and 11, both won by Dave Blaney) and Lakeside (April 4 and 5 both won by Sammy Swindell). The Doug Wolfgang practice incident at Lakeside in 1992 basically ended the WoO asphalt experiment.

I-94 speedway in MN was dirt when NCRA raced there on June 5 1993 (won by Shane Carson).

I don't believe the Lakeside incident was with the World of Outlaws.

I-94 was dirt in 1993! Must have paved the place shortly after that. I've driven by there on interestate it seems for the past 15+ years. Thanks for the info.

Don't believe it if you don't want to ... legal history begs to differ --

below excerpt from this link --

On April 3, 1992, Mr. Wolfgang, a professional race car driver, crashed into a wall during a "media day" practice session at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. The practice session was in preparation for races scheduled for April 4 and 5, 1992. The races were promoted by Defendant R.E.D. Racing and sanctioned by Defendant World of Outlaws. Lakeside Speedway is owned by Defendant Mid-America Motorsports.

FYI, They tore the tar off I94 and just finished up their "back to dirt" season a few weeks ago. It's a nice track but they run on Friday nights so it's brutal getting up 94 from the east metro with all the cabin traffic. I plan on taking a couple hours on a Friday and checking it out next year. It's a nice facility right on the freeway.

I was at all four Lakeside races and I have some really good pictures. I was also at the NCRA race at I-94 when Shane Carson won and I even have a -shirt with the NCRA northern tour dates on it. I-94 is long gone now and is basically an empty dirt field awaiting it's next project. It was was a decent track. I saw Wolfgang come from the tail and beat Jimmy Evans in the Motter 71M in 91' I believe in an unsanctioned race. Same night a kid named Donny Schatz fired it in to one and ended up wrapped in the catch fence. Good memories, thanks re-hashing.
