Cowtown Sprint Nationals Now This Saturday/Sunday

Kennedale TX (10/8/09) by DarinShort.com. Due to the large amount of traveling teams converging upon Cowtown Speedway for this weekend's Cowtown Sprint Nationals, and with the uncertainty of possible heavy overnight precipitation on Thursday night; the Cowtown Sprint Nationals will now take place, in its entirety, on Saturday October 10 and Sunday October 11.

Here is the summary of this change.

NEW SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Thursday Oct. 8 – 5PM to 9PM, Open practice, all race divisions, pit passes $20. Concessions and fuel available.

Friday Oct. 9 – no events scheduled.

Saturday Oct. 10 – Pits open at 2PM, Grandstands open at 3PM. Hot laps at 5PM, races at 5:30PM.

Sunday Oct. 11 – Pits open at 11AM, Grandstands open at 11:30AM. Hot laps at 12:30. Races at 1PM.

HERE ARE THE DETAILS OF THIS CHANGE:

1. All scheduled races and all scheduled purses are still in effect.

2.The THURSDAY night (October 8th) practice is STILL ON, as scheduled from 5pm-9pm. The track is race ready, it's warm and the sun is out, at the time of writing. Be watching www.CowtownSpeedway.com for any further updates. Main grandstands closed. However, with the forecast for overnight precipitation, all trailers will be asked to leave the pit area after Thursday night's practice, so we can groom the pit area after the front moves through; which is forecast by Friday morning.

3. The weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday is nearly perfect, with highs around 70 and sunny conditions.

4. Friday night's scheduled events will now take place, in its entirety, on Saturday. Here's the revised Saturday schedule:

A. Pits open at 2PM. We may, or may not, allow trailers in the pits previous to this time, if the pit area is still being groomed. That will not be known until Saturday morning, monitor the track website for the latest updates.

B. Grandstands will open at 3PM. (If you purchased 2-day passes: there are no changes to the 2-day advance ticket sales or format. 2-day pass pre-sales will end online Friday night.)

C. Hot laps at 5PM, Races at 5:30PM. (Sprint Heats, B's, 30-Lap $2000/win A. All other classes run heats and twin qualifying features.)

D. Fan Fest has been removed from the weekend schedule. It will return in 2010.

5. Saturday night's original schedule is now Sunday. Here's the revised Sunday schedule:

A. Pits open at 11AM. (We will clear the pits at 10:45AM)

B. Grandstands open at 11:30AM.

C. Hot lap at 12:30, Sprint Heats at 1PM, then B-features for all classes.

D. The track reserves the right to rework the track at any point in the day to insure quality racing. With the weather forecasted to be sunny, but only 70 degrees, it should make for very good racing conditions. The track will do everything in its power to make sure there are good racing conditions.

E. Tentatively, we plan to rework the track after the B features, which we estimate to be from 4-4:45pm.

F. Then we will run all four feature races at approximately 5pm, so racing should be complete by around 7PM. The Winged 600 Championships will be first feature out, followed by the Sprint feature, Topless 100 and Topless Limited Championships.

With the unknown of 'if' and 'how much' precipitation may occur on Thursday night – coupled with the fact that Friday's mainly cloudy forecast early in the day, would not allow for adequate drying to get all of the cars pitted early enough to be on time for Friday night's race.

In summary, we'd rather be safe than sorry. Cowtown has run many events on Sunday's over the course of the years, and has had good racing at those events. Most importantly, we'll still get the entire weekend of racing in, under this revised schedule. For tickets, entry list, event flyer and much more, click www.CowtownSpeedway.com – and don't miss the event of the year, the Cowtown Sprint Nationals!

Wow this is a good operation. Wish every promotor could be this way.

Only a racer turned promoter would try this. I wish him luck but an old promoter once told me you should never try to ride a dead horse to town. Weather can whip the best of promoters.

It's now Friday morning and the forecasters actually got it right here! While most of you Okie's got blasted all day long...and night long...the storm blew threw after practice at about 2 or 3AM and the radar shows the light rain to end within the hour...then cool and windy conditions today...which is fine...then sunny and 70 tomorrow and 65 and partly cloudy for Sunday's race.

But previous to overnight, since Sunday, we've had one 10-minute rain during the week and that was it.

And the bulk of the rain came within 1 hour overnight, so when that happens, most of it just washes away.

We're still fully on schedule for the weekend...and be watching for a special news item sometime during the day today!

I hear that some teams are having difficulty finding rooms for saturday night. Some had reservations for friday night only. Tough situation if your racing for points especially. I'm sure they'll make due somehow.

Then quite frankly they're not looking the right way.

We've had direct links to our host hotels on the track website's Cowtown Sprint Nationals page for the past 2 months and they still have rooms available!

And a quick check on Travelocity.com came up with over 50 Ft. Worth area hotels with availability.

Send them to www.COWTOWNSPEEDWAY.com scroll down to the HOST HOTEL link, CLICK ON IT, then CALL IN YOUR RESERVATION!

THANK YOU once again to Don with the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram for taking the time to publish pictures and video from Thursday night's Cowtown Sprint Nationals practice.

Here's the direct link to their recap...and my guess it to check this link throughout the weekend for updates once racing begins tomorrow night:

we're staying at Baymont Inn & Suites. 1 mile south of the confluence of I-35W and I-20E. They have had availability this entire time. And it's almost perfectly located. not too long or far from the track - and it's in a restaurant/business heavy district.

It's a metropolitan area - I'm sure with more than a couple phone calls a reasonable rate and room can easily be found.

Friday PM Update:

Track/Pit/Infield Drying is a success, all is as scheduled for the Cowtown Sprint Nationals on Saturday/Sunday.

Still showing 70 and sunny at racetime tomorrow, with cloudy (NO RAIN) and 65 degrees on Sunday.

We may be opening the pits on Saturday earlier than the advertised 2pm time. Check www.CowtownSpeedway.com after 9AM Saturday for an update. (Meaning, we'll allow cars to get parked and organized, then we'll run everyone out of the pits at 1:45 and open the pits officially at 2.)
