Greetings all.

I know a lot of drivers hang out around here, so I thought I would share an article I posted to our website devoted to sprint car racing in Florida. We are fortunate enough to have a sprint car driver that is also an EMT/firefighter that has agreed to post driver safety tips to our website on a regular basis. His name is Scotty Adema and he is one of the few campaigners of a Beast chassis in these parts. He's also quite a wheel man that is involved in a very tight points race down here.

We're grateful to him for posting his unique perspective on safety and I think it's applicable to anyone that straps into a racecar.

Hopefully you will find it interesing and maybe can pass along some safety tips to others.

Thanks.

Not sure I have bought into the Poly belts, yet. I know there have been tests, but I still just don't think that that little amount of deceleration is good. Obviously, the most amount of deflection without any obstruction is best. Not the least amount. You just gotta weigh whether or not you can reach the obstruction before you run out of deflection! Back in the 80's there were supermodified crashes on the East coast where the cars appeared to have little to no damage, but the driver was dead. This was because the driver absorbed the impact, and their Aorta ruptured from their Heart. Now a days, the cars have a large amount of crush zones built into them, but I have still hit a concrete wall at over 100mph and came to a stop so fast that all I could say for days was I couldn't believe how quickly the car stopped. I had head aches and dizzy spells for a week or so. I just don't know how things would have been had the belts not gave a little. JMO
