Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (September 15, 2009) – The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region returns to the place where it all begin with Saturday night's event at Creek County Speedway near Tulsa, OK.

Saturday's card atop Sapulpa's tight, ¼-mile clay oval, where the American Sprint Car Series cut its teeth beginning in 1992, is the third and final Sooner Region stop in Creek County for the 2009 season.

Closing in on his first series championship is fourth-generation Oklahoma City shoe Joe Wood, Jr., who has posted seven top-tens in nine Sooner features aboard the Wesmar-powered JW Field Equipment/Grand Machine No. 03 Maxim.

Wood holds a 34-point advantage over Glenpool's Matt Covington, the 19-year-old with a pair of runner-up showings to his credit that is poised to take quick advantage of any Wood mistakes in the stretch run for the Sooner crown.

Third-generation Tulsa-area driver Donnie Ray Crawford has worked his way up to third in points ahead of the Missouri duo of Kyle Bellm and Brad Graham.

The balance of the current top ten includes Oklahoma City area contenders Chris Lloyd and Andy Shouse, Kansas competitor Forrest Sutherland, Mustang's Robert Sellers and Broken Arrow's Brady Bacon.

Atop the 2009 Sooner win charts is Broken Arrow's Nick Smith, who added his third triumph of the year in the July 25 stop at Creek County. Danny Wood won the season opener at Creek County in April.
