Topic: Remember When Auto Racing Was At The Kansas State Fair? Not This Year.

Remember when there was several days of racing including the weekdays. Then when the fair added a couple of days (went from 7 to a 9 day run, or 10 including the opening Friday night) we had racing on both weekends and one or two weekdays. Now I see no racing at the grandstand this year. What does that tell you? Remember when winning the Kansas State Fair Championship was a big deal, whether it be in super modifieds, champdirt, sprints or stock cars.

There also will be no races in Oklahoma City at the State Fair Speedway during the State Fair. I remember looking forward for the IMCA sprint car races as well as the IMCA late model races during the early to late 1960's. Also they had the regular super modified and modified races during the Fair. The Mayor of OKC wants to destroy the track and grandstand to make way for a grand entrance in that area for all the horse shows.

The Kansas State Fair still has the open air concerts in front of the grandstands. They will also have and a demo derby Monday, outlaw tractor/truck pulls Wednesday and freestyle mx motocross Thursday.
I guess my biggest concern over the years was pay to park, pay to get in the gate, and pay to get in the grandstands.
