I remember Barger's Ford getting whipped by a 1997 chassis/used engine combo last year at Fonda. Both started on the front row, and Jason Barney smoked him. Its a shame that Jason doesn't run the full ESS tour. Last year he had 5 wins in just 14 starts between the ASCS Patriots and ESS. But, if you look at Mark Martin's results since switching from a Ford to a Chevy, I think that is why Chevy is such a "cancer". I would take the Ford over the Mopar though.

you don't "remember" any such thing. Barger never ran a Ford last year, at Fonda or anywhere else. Barger has used Ford power this year, has 4 A-main wins with E.S.S., won the $6,000 Quebec Nationals and the E.S.S. point championship. Get your facts straight next time you feel like popping off.

Wait a minute. Everyone who is anyone says you have to have a chevy to even be competitive. Thanks for educating us on the facts.

I bet Barger was the ONLY strictly Ford powered car in the country in 2009 that chased points and he is champion.

Mint, I understand your long-term loyalty to the blue oval, but until the use of Ford motors approaches that of Chevy or Chevy replicas, I think that you're just tilting at windmills(read Don Quijote if that metaphor is lost on you).

There are way too many reasons why teams choose the bowtie - be it development, ease of access to parts/builders, or just cost. Until the Ford has a long-term record of proven success, it will just be an oddity/anomoly. I'd prefer to wait until that long-term success occurs before I deem Hebing/Barger's success this year as a trend, or harbinger of things to come...

You can love your Fords and their current, limited, success, but IMO, you cannot see any trend there...yet.....

You better check out the forum more often because KKR did run Chevy's one weekend at Williams Grove and both drivers used provisionals. They since have been back to running Mopars even tho KKR doesn't get any sponsorship money from Mopar.

Let's hope they stay with Mopar and not Ford. Anybody else still remember how much trouble Jeff Swindell had with Fords when he drove the red 104+ car??

I sure do--when he was running the 104+ car they put in a Chevy and won a qualifying feature at the Knoxville nationals in 1998. I haven't heard from a ford since Jeff drove that car I don't think. When Blaney took over the Luna car he went to chevy and won the nationals. A ford in a sprint car is bad for global warming----wayyyyy to much smoke.

In case you haven't't heard, Richard Petty's cars will run Roush Yates Fords next season in Sprint Cup. I know, NASCAR news who cares right? However there could be a trickle down effect from this merger.

As part of this new deal, Kasey Kahne will now drive Ford powered cars. Is it possible that Kahne's open wheel teams could run Ford power in the future? Roush Yates is currently building a Ford 360 motor, and perhaps now this would give them a reason to jump into 410 sprints. This type of move would also fall in line with Ford Racing's alleged emphasis on grassroots dirt track racing

As a Ford fanatic I would love to see some big name teams running the Blue Oval, especially on the WoO trail. Is this a faulty line of reasoning? Wishful thinking on my part?

Just something to think about.

There is a USAC (wingless 410) car that runs at the PAS that utilizes a Ford engine. I think the drivers name is Rodney Argo, the car is black, # 19. I'm pretty sure the engine is considered a 410 (not a 360) and I think it came out of the Roush/Yates shop. Please correct me if I am wrong!

Tony Stewart's USAC teams didn't switch to Toyota when Joe Gibbs jumped ship.

I'll believe it when it happens.

you are right they didn't switch. tony just left gibbs! mopar will be out of racing soon anyway, as far as factory involvement. the current government influance will see to that. GM may fight that harder but you can bet the presure to drop out will be exerted on them. in the meantime ford is doing everything it can to keep from having to be involved with any government funding. they were ready to stick their hand out for a time until they saw what happened to GM and chrysler!

to indy and beyond!!

Stranger things have happened. Many people on this very forum didn't give MOPAR much of a chance when they announced a return to "grass roots racing" and they did quite well. The one thing that I find interesting is that KK is ending back up at Ford, the same manufacturer who filed a few lawsuits against him after they brought him up through USAC and the Busch Series and then jumped ship and went with Dodge/Everham.

MAYBE he’ll end up back in a Ford. His contract with Petty is up this year.

Ford ROYALY screwed up by not getting young drivers under long term contract. FIRST with Jeff Gordon, then with Kasey Kahne. They even shot themselves in the foot in the 1980s by stalling Ken Schrader so long he ended up with Hendrick.
