Mason Moore scores fourth place finish at penultimate Placerville Speedway Red Hawk Casino Point Race
By Gary Thomas
Placerville, CA – August 31, 2009…Making just his third start back in a sprint car since getting injured in late-May Princeton, CA's Mason Moore drove to a fourth place finish during the penultimate race in the Red Hawk Casino weekly season at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
The event was Moore's fifth start in the weekly 360 series at the red-clay bullring and marked his best finish at the track this season since scoring a third place result on April 18. "It was a good solid run for us and something we can definitely build on," Moore said. "I'm just really trying to get back into a groove and get my endurance back slowly to where it was early in the year so I'll take a top-five tonight."
The next to last race in Red Hawk Casino weekly year at the Placerville Speedway saw a 24-car field sign in at the back gate and Moore started off the event by qualifying seventh fastest overall aboard the F&F Racing, Levin's Auto Supply, Roseville Precision No. x1 sprinter. A fifth place finish in his heat race then transferred him into the main event and when the six pill was drawn for the inversion it put the former Silver Dollar Speedway Rookie of the Year on the outside of the front row for the 25-lap contest.
When racing got underway in the feature the 18 year-old driver settled into third early on and ran the majority of the race sitting behind veterans Andy Forsberg and Mike Henry, both former Placerville Speedway and multiple-time Civil War Series champions. As the laps wound down Moore continued to position himself in third, but would lose a spot to Kyle Hirst over the final few circuits and cross under the checkered flag in fourth at the conclusion of the race. "We kind of got jammed up on the start of the main event and then Kyle got by me late in the race, but the track was real good tonight like it always is here so that made it a lot of fun," said Moore.
Prior to Saturday's event Moore was also in action at the Silver Dollar Speedway for Coca-Cola Championship Night at the helm of the Rolling Hills Casino, Moore Insurance Services No. 22 on Friday, where he finished in the 15th position after another car made contact with him in turn two during the feature, which spoiled a likely top-10 effort in his first 410 start at the track since May 15.
This coming Saturday night will find Moore returning to the seat of the F&F Racing, Inventory Sales Company, Sierra Single Ply No. x1 machine for championship night at the Placerville Speedway. "Primetime" will be searching for a strong run to help build some more momentum with a number of special post-season races fast approaching. "Every time we've run the weekly 360 shows at Placerville we've been fast and would really like to finish off the season with a win on Saturday night," Moore said.
After Saturday's race in Placerville the attention will then be turned to the 56th annual Gold Cup Race of Champions at the Silver Dollar Speedway, where Moore will be behind the wheel of the Steve Tuccelli/Alan Bradway owned No. x1 sprint car once again. "I'm looking forward to the Gold Cup and hope we can have a good showing," said the 18 year-old competitor. "The highest I've made it to on Saturday night of the Gold Cup is the c-main so I'd certainly like to get in at least the b-feature this year, but the goal is no doubt to get into the A-main."
