Mike Henry & Rick Fowzer Racing looking for help to run Gold Cup

By Gary Thomas

Sacramento, CA – August 23, 2009…With the 56th annual Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway fast approaching Sacramento sprint car racer Mike Henry and Manteca car owner Rick Fowzer are looking for sponsorship in an attempt to compete in the prestigious World of Outlaw sanctioned event.

Fowzer, a former competitor himself, hasn't driven in an actual sprint car race in a couple years, but still has all the equipment needed if he can find the right funding to run the upcoming Gold Cup. "We obviously know its short notice but I'd really like to give Mike a chance to compete at the Gold Cup," Fowzer said. "We have all the equipment, the truck and trailer but really just need some financial help to offset the running expenses."

Henry in fact has made the A-main at the Gold Cup multiple times in just seven career attempts at the event and has qualified for the final night's feature in two of his last three tries. "The Gold Cup is the biggest winged sprint car race on the west coast and we've been pretty good at it recently so it would be nice to be able to run it again this year," Henry said. "I'm going to be running Wednesday night in the 18 car for sure with Civil War, but just hope that we can find some sponsorship to run the Outlaw portion with Rick."

Henry last season ran full-time with the Golden State Challenge 410 Sprint Car Series finishing fourth in the points, but hasn't had the opportunity to run in a 410 sprinter yet this season. "It was a lot of fun to run with Golden State last year and the experience was great so it would be nice to get back in a 410 at the Gold Cup," said the former two-time Civil War champion. "I just have to thank my good buddy Rick Fowzer for thinking about me and hopefully we can find something and have a chance to run in a few weeks."

Despite being away from the driving seat Fowzer has followed all the action during his time away and hopes to have his car back out at the Gold Cup to give Henry another shot at getting into the A-main come Saturday night of the event. "I've kept up with the results and everything and think it would be fun if we could run Gold Cup and see if we can have another local guy in the feature," Fowzer commented. "I know that Mike has made the A-main before and I have confidence that he can do it again if given the opportunity."

For anyone wanting to potentially sponsor or help out with the efforts please contact Mike Henry at 916-548-9099 or Rick Fowzer at 209-825-8585 for more info.

Just a thought, if Rick has a 410 why not team up with the 18 for the Gold Cup?

Whether you like him or not, Mike stands on the gas and can drive a race car.

Good luck.

Thanks to Steve Harris and team for letting Mike run the 33 car last Friday in Chico. Although the night didn't go how he wanted it was nice to see Mike back in a 410.
