How many teams actually balance their tires? We are tossing the idea around with buying a balancer from Snap-On. I guess I want some advice as to whether it is money well spent or not. Will it make that much of a difference? Thanks a bunch everyone!

Are talking balancing wheels by adding weights? Or mounting an unknown tire on a known good wheel to see if it is off??

We even balance the tires on our 1/10 radio control race cars. I'm telling you it DOES make a difference at any level of racing. We used to do it back in my dinosaur dirt racing days too. It is one of those 50 little things the successful teams do that make them successful. In this day and age every advantage is huge.

Don't waste your $$$ on a high dollar balancer. Use on of these... http://www.jrmotorsports.com/product.cfm?productID=7688

Carmen Manzardo had a hub welded to the corner of his open trailer that would work just like the heavy weight balancer you showed Hawker.

It is funny what racing ingenuity can come up with, but them again some folks always prefered a chrome plated vice. lol

I was surprized you can take an unmounted wheel and roll it on a flat table that is leveled

and tell if a wheel is unbalaced. I have used those cheap bubble balance at Harbor Freight on

our FF midgets.

And I'm surprized computer balancers are only abouot 1300 dollars now. 20 years ago you

were talking 3500 dollars.

I talked to Kenny Adams about his tire balancing program a few years back at Bridgeport Speedway when he towed in to race with the URC. He told me that it was absolutely imperative at a place like B-Port (big wide 5/8's mile track). He said he doesn't know how he raced without one at big tracks before.

"The Outlaws have people out here that don’t know
anything about racing. I don’t understand how they
come up with some of the calls they do. It makes me
think that they just might be that stupid. It’s
scary." -Steve Kinser

When we races Karts we balanced them in a tub of water with on of those little round bubble levels mounted on a disc and sat in center of wheel, we would chuck the wheel/tire up in a lathe and true it up also . Seems to help and thats only on a 34" tire at 50 mph. I would think on a sprint car the benefits would be greater
