Walker Has Strong Knoxville Nationals Thursday Run

By Gary Costa

Knoxville, Iowa (August 13, 2009) – After Thursday night qualifying for the 49th Annual SuperClean Knoxville Nationals, Presented by Lucas Oil, Tyler Walker sits third overall in the points with 482 total points gathered after his strong performance in the NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24. Walker has put the SC Motorsports, JEI into tonight's "A Scramble" which will decide the first five rows for Saturday's big race. The scramble inverts the first ten cars in points, so Walker will be starting eighth in the event on Friday evening.

Walker went out for his qualifying run and drilled the ½-mile surface, timing in third with a 15.323 with only Dale Blaney and Joey Saldana turning in better qualifying times. In his heat race, Walker immediately got to work when Doug Clark waved the green flag on the 10 lap event. With eight cars inverted in the third heat, Walker would make an incredible charge from his eighth place starting spot to finish third.

Walker would then line-up sixth for the 25 lap feature event, with Stevie Smith, Jr., joining him in the third row. When the green lights flashed on around the speedway, Walker and Smith went to work on each other fighting each other throughout the event. Smith eventually worked his way around Walker with Walker eventually finishing fifth in the exciting event.

"That was a fun race. I wish we were able to move up more, but I'll take it," explained Walker. "I'm just happy to be here, and it's great seeing all my fans and friends. I think that we have a good car going into the scramble – I'll definitely be giving it my all.

If Tyler has problems in the feature I hope he will pull into the pits rather than stay on the track and bring out an unnecessary yellow. It could affect the outcome of the race.

First of all Tyler can be glad he raced last nite and not wed. night, in that mess, where no one could pass. He took advantage of a great break.I really think Tyler is one of the guys to watch come Sat. night And i can't believe that there are still people complaining about Tyler and last year. Give it up please.

I would love to see T-Dub win the Nationals! Bring on the "original" backflip .... then all the chicks can go nuts when he rips his shirt off. He looks like the trophy guy from the Ironman 55. Go Cali!!!!
