Ad another page to the larger than life legend of this guy who for personal reasons only races a few times a years.

He pulled up in good equipment for the NSW 410 championship (Jason Meyers car from the outlaws down under show), broke a U joint before he time took time in a field of 58 410's, came from the back of the non qualifiers race to win it. Came from 13th in the C to win it, came from 17th in the B up to second, and then from 21st to win the A main.

Steveo, I've said many times before and been ridiculed for it, he could have been one of the best EVER, heck he may have been, we just didn't get to see it often enough. I have seen some magical races from him at PCR but they were only because Steve was in the same race. If he could have been motivated all the time and focused he would have been not just an Aussie champ but maybe one over here as well.

I once wrote in a column in the old Speedway Racing News that if he came over here he would have to clean his act up or Jack Hewitt or the likes would straighten him out real soon. Then Steve Brazier and I had a chat and I thought I was dead, lol. Garry helped me out though because he said to his Father I was 100% right. Not long after, he had that run in with Kenny Jacobs at Chillicothe and he was banned from the All-Stars, dang. I have many Garry stories, I could write pages on some of them, he sure was a trip and he smiled all the way, no matter the circumstances. I miss the guy but at least I got to see more of him than most and those memories I'll never forget. Take It Easy...

PS I remember a World Series race meeting where he refused to go to the rear after causing Joey Saldana to crash late in the race. They tried everything to get him to go there, even threw the red flag and everyone stopped, BUT Garry, lol. Seeing the officials trying to get him to stop was like a cartoon. Then the curfew came and my mate Pete Murphy was awarded the win, weirdest thing I ever saw. I think this was at Wagga Wagga, were you there?

I've seen Garry Brazier at his best, in a sprintcar, driving so hard into turn 3 at Parramatta you wonder if he would lift (turned out he didn't) ... and I've seen him at his worst, as a spectator almost crying from the frustration of not being on the track racing against the best.

Still, he's the best I've even seen. He drives as hard and as brave as Hewitt ever did, as smart in traffic as Steve Kinser at his best.

I'd buy that book if if (or when) it's written.

Heck, you ever see that skinny guy hit a golf ball, sheesh! His team won a couple of the tourneys connected to the PCR Nationals back in the 90's. I remember not getting invited back coz' there was a rumor a golf cart found it's way to the pond or something like that, oops. I have many Garry stories, I like him as a person and as a racer and the whole family is quite a story, one worth writing methinks. Take It Easy....

I watched him in CA one night and the right front arm fell off the car and he drove the Ill handling shitbox like there was no tomorrow and if I'm not mistaken he ended up winning the race. It was quite a ride not to mention one hell of a driving job!

He won a 20 grand to win race in Brisbane with a flat left front for 20 laps or more, Brooke Tatnell hard on his heels the whole time if I can remember correctly.

There was the night at MT Gambier when he spun out on the infield and stalled the car then he hoped out of the car and pushed it onto the track so they would throw a yellow on so he could restart.

Brooke frequently stopped by my booth during the Nationals over the years as did his wonderful father George and we would chat some. In discussing Garry one afternoon Brooke held up his hand, stuck out his little finger and said Garry Brazier has more sprintcar talent in this that I have in my entire body and Brooke is a helluva racer. Garry will always be mentioned with the word IF in most sentences. I hope he's doing well and happy, along with Mom and Dad, they are very fine people. Take It Easy....

He had a drive lined up in one of South Australia's top cars for this weekend, the Disbury Family sprintcar. Apparently he sent them a text message yesterday saying he won't be coming, no explanation, no phone call.

the mystery continues...

He was a semi-regular one year in central PA and ran Port a lot of times with local sponsorship help . One night he broke or maybe crashed in warmups and tried he to give the money back . The sponsor said keep it and get the car fixed for next week , or do whatever you want with it , but I'm not taking it back . Of course the name stayed on the car the rest of the season . I know that story gained a lot of respect in this area.
