Continues in Humboldt tonight and Caney, Kansas Saturday night!.....AND there's a new point leader! See the 2nd post....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(For the whole story, see www.USMTS.com ) It consists of the final 18 races and all but 2 of them pay at least $3000 to win and they are all one day shows! It starts out with 5-in-a-row in Missouri & Kansas THIS TUESDAY through SATURDAY. After 4 days off, they run a 3-show weekend (Thur-Fri-Sat) in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. Then it's 10 days off before another 5-races-in-5-day stretch starts on Wednesday, September 2nd in Iowa and ends on Labor Day Sunday in Minnesota

Then almost 2 weeks later (11 days off), it's the sprint to the finish as North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minnesota races for 2 nights on September 18th and 19th and that's closely followed by the 11th annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree at Deer Creek Raceway in Spring Valley, Minnesota. That's a possible $12,000 to win weekend over September 24th, 25th and 26th and keep watching the website for other news concerning Jamboree week in Spring Valley.

There are 60 drivers eligible for Casey' General Stores Hunt for the National Championship and at the moment, they are all within 71 points of the leader who happens to be #3 going for #9. Check it out:

Then don't forget, The Southern Series Hunt starts one week after the Jamboree at the ultra-racey Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX right outside of Houston on October 1st.

Rumor has it that Southern Series competitors Garrett Durrett from Louisiana and Dustin 'Tater' Hyde from Texarkana will carry a pair of Ramirez Race Cars chassis up to La Monte and at least start out running the National Hunt. Good luck guys!

Perhaps the biggest pass of last night's event in Springfield came in the first B main. 7th starting Rodney Sanders at some point made his way around 3rd starting Kelly Shryock. Not sure if it was a pass or if Shryock had to come from the back for some reason but regardless, that 3rd place finish by Sanders put him in the A for 20th starting spot with passing points and the 4th place finish, caused Kelly to burn a provisional and start 23rd without passing points. His 17th place finish together with Sanders rallying for his 3rd straight top 5 in the first 3 races of the Hunt vaulted Rodney-the-Rocket to the top of the points with a 3 point lead over Kelly. They both drive Skyrockets if you didn't know. Dereck Ramirez isn't doing too shabby in the points either in the Ramirez Race Cars house car. He's 3rd at -50.

After all the tire-gate stuff, Jeremy Payne scored one for the hometeam in Springfield and took $3000 spending money off to Batesville with him. Zack VanderBeek gave it a good run and advanced from 6th starting spot to lead a lap before half-way and eventually finished 2nd and moved to fourth in the points, 62 out of first. Ryan Gustin is the second teenager in the top 5 in points at -71.

Corey Dripps used his first top ten of the Hunt to hang on to the all important 10th spot in points but he's just 16 points ahead of Jason Hughes who finally got it going by rallying from 16th to 7th for his first top ten of the Hunt after missing the A in race #1. Ron Ver Beek clings to 15th place by one point ahead of Randy Timms. In fact, only 8 points seperates 19th place from 15th -- the last spot of the Top Dog program. 37 drivers have attended all 3 Hunt races with 28 of them actually in the Hunt.

Some good drivers continue to struggle though. Eddie Martin drew the pole of heat race #1 at Springfield but has yet to make an A-main. Maybe Humboldt will do it for him tonight! Chad Wheeler, Tate Cole and Scott Green are still looking to make their first A-main of the Hunt and Chad Kinder missed an A main last night as well.

55 cars in Humboldt! The heat race results are posted. I didn't Ken Schrader was going to be there? Usually Kenny Wallce and Schrader do the midweek shows only this time of year. Schrader will run a B main.

Kelly made top eight but Sanders will start 9th! Donlinger, Myer, Hughes and Boney all in the redraw. Colt Mather is top qualifier though. Chad Wheeler already locked in and makes his first A main of the week. USMTS Southern Series Dustin Duncan-JustSayYes RotY contender Chad Davis of Tulsa entered this one and made top 13 as did local star, Jess Folk, Jr.!

Not a good night so far for Grant Junghans, Dripps or Hejna as they were all DNFs in their heats. Only 4 of the 55 cars DNFed in the heats so they will start deep in their Bs.

Guess you can't keep a good man down for long!

Humboldt Speedway, KS, Hunt Race #4, Aug 14th:

A Main:
1 12 - Jason Hughes -- Westville, OK (7)
2 3 - Kelly Shryock -- Fertile, IA (2)
3 33z - Zack VanderBeek -- New Sharon, IA (16)
4 65 - Tommy Myer -- Blooming Prairie, MN (3)
5 20 - Rodney Sanders -- Happy, TX (9)
6 22 - Dustin Boney -- Tonganoxie, KS (5)
7 5r - Morgan Bagley -- Longview, TX (17)
8 10 - Mike Steensma -- Luverne, MN (6)
9 51 - Eddie Martin -- Stilwell, OK (21)
10 21m - Dean Mahlstedt -- Clear Lake, IA (19)
11 52 - Chad Davis -- Tulsa, OK (11)
12 9 - Ken Schrader -- Concord, NC (20)
13 88 - Chad Wheeler -- Muskogee, OK (13)
14 7jr - Jess Folk Jr. -- Iola, KS (12)
15 63 - Ryan Whitworth -- Humboldt, KS (25)
16 66 - Dan Bohr -- Decorah, IA (22)
17 98 - John Allen -- Chanute, KS (1) DNF
18 4r - Dereck Ramirez -- Woodward, OK (23) DNF
19 9d - Scott Daniels -- Humboldt, KS (26) DNF
20 18 - Chase Junghans -- Manhattan, KS (15) DNF
21 20r - Bryan Rowland -- Woodward, OK (14) DNF
22 8 - Colt Mather -- Webster, IA (8 ) DNF
23 12h - Mike Hansen -- Alton, IA (10) DNF
24 19r - Ryan Gustin -- Marshalltown, IA (24) DNF
25 3d - Tim Donlinger -- Rochester, MN (4) DNF
26 6 - Justin Folk -- Iola, KS (18 ) DNF

Lap Leaders: Allen 1-2, Donlinger 3-6, Boney 7-11, Hughes 12-40.

Some attrition and some passing too! Several lead changes.

Really proud of our Texans there and Eddie Martin too (21st to 9th)! 4 straight top 5s for Sanders and a nice top ten for Bagley who has made all 4 A-mains so far with an average car count of 58! That should get him in the top ten now. Kelly should be back in the point lead by 3 or 4 points now. The standings should look very interesting in the Morning as Hughes (obviously), VanderBeek and Myer all had good nights while Ramirez used his 2nd provisional, Gustin his first without much of a result and the defending champion Donlinger was the 2nd car out. Should jumble things up quite a bit!

Caney, Kansas tomorrow anyone???
