This is the format for 2008; they may have modified this slightly for this year....

Field is split into two groups - half qualify on Wed, half on Thu. It's all points based. Maximum number of points one can earn on one day is 500 (200 for fastest time trial, 100 for winning heat, 200 for winning A Feature).

Top 20 in combined points are in the Sat Championship A Main. Of those, the top 10 are in the A Scramble run on Friday and can earn more points to possibly start up front for the Championship A Main.

The cars that don't earn enough points to be locked into the Saturday A, B or C features have to run Friday to get to Saturday. The top 10 finishers in the Friday A main make up the final 10 spots in the Saturday C. The rest make up the D, and E on Saturday.

The best days are generally Wednesday and Thursday because you make or break your chances to win the Nationals Championship by how you do on your qualifying night.

A more detailed explanation can be found here....

They did make a change this year to the Friday format, they used to run a full show for the non-qualifies. Now it will be two semi-features with the top 12 in each transferring to the Main Event. Where they will then be set into the C, D, and E based on how they finish. The rest will fill in the field based on points.

Looks to me that Thursday seems to be the harder of the two nights. I know you've got Schatz and Meyers Wednesday but I think Thursday has lots of heavy hitters plus some sleepers.

Brian Brown is my sleeper pick this year. He has been very strong at Knoxville all year.

I'd say Brown, Alley, Zomer, and Herrera could all be competitive picks out of the Knoxville regulars.
