Tommy Tarlton Stays in the Hunt for GLR Investments Championship with 3rd Place Finish

By Gary Costa

Watsonville, CA (July 31, 2009) – The Tarlton Motorsports hauler was blistering over the Pacheco Pass last Friday in hopes to score the team's third win in GLR Investments 360 Sprint Car Series competition. The race would be Round No. 8 out of the 13 race series for Easton hot shoe Tommy Tarlton. Tarlton entered the event only a few markers back from point's leader Brent Kaeding.

During the last event held at Ocean Speedway on July 17, the GLR Investments Sprint Cars vs. Civil War race - Tarlton and Kaeding put on a show for all in attendance by battling each other to the end for an exciting finish with Tarlton holding onto second.

Tarlton, who is a great qualifier, timed in with anunchacteristic 14.077 which would time him in 11th out of the 23 cars in attendance on the ¼-mile speedway. Tarlton would gain speed during the course of the evening as he then went onto win his heat in the Tarlton & Son, Inc. No. 21, collecting valuable points along the way.

The 30 lap feature would have Tarlton and Keith Day along side each other in the front row. When the green flag flew for the start of the feature, Tarlton and Day immediately got into a slugfest racing side-by-side and nose to tail. As they began to lap slower traffic, Tarlton would begin to pull away in the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino, Shark powered Maxim. Tarlton looked to be headed for his third main event in the series. In the latter stages of the race however, Tarlton's mount began to lose grip on the racing surface, and both Jason Statler and Brent Kaeding squeezed by with Tarlton eventually crossing the finish line in third. Tarlton's third place finish now puts him only six points behind Kaeding.

"We'll take it. The track was a lot different than it has been, but it was the same for everyone. We were fast in the beginning, but fell off of the pace just a bit," Tarlton said. "We're still looking good in the points, but I sure wanted that win our third race. Hats off to all my guys; they work hard each and every night."

Tommy Tarlton will be back at again this Saturday to do battle with the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series at Ocean Speedway.
