In typical afternoon racing, tire strategy plays a role in who wins. All but one driver pulled in for tire changes in the 20 lap qualifier for the midgets at Belleville Sarurday afternoon.
Many of the biggest names and teams in midget racing were at the High banks Saturday night. Surprizingly several did not crack the top five at the finish.
Almost unknown and unheard of and making his first appearence at the High Banks, Henry Clark of Villa Park Cal. would qualify for the pole and lead the race for 20 some laps before.
The hard charger award has to go to Brad Kuhn making his way up to 2nd from 10th.
I have tried not to tell you to much and spoil watching the video, so let's watch the video. Enjoy.

How come Clauson didn't lose his A main starting position by using his back up car?

All drivers were allowed to wait until an actual racing event to run their car for the night. So, whichever car appeared on track for the heat or dash of the Saturday night program would be their car for the night.
Clauson did not want to, or plan on, run his back-up car as they thought the engine was laying down in the Wednesday night race at McCool. Expectations were low when they were forced to race the back-up, but apparently it had some life left in it...
