I've never been to a race in Petaluma and would like to satisfy my curiosity about the place. Should I go to the Civil War event on July 25th or the GSC event on Aug. 1st? I may be bringing along a friend who's never been to a sprint car race before. Thanks!

The last few GSC shows in Petaluma have been pretty awesome.

If I had to choose one I would go with the Civil War on July 25th. There will be 30+ civil war cars plus 25-30 spec sprints. So lots of sprint cars and of different variety for the first time viewer. I do have to acknowledge that the only thing the GSC has an advanatage of is that the top 4 or 5 cars (walker, allard, kaeding, larson, suggs...) usually put on one heck of a show but after that the depth and car count is non existent. So 60 sprint cars (30-40 CW) vs. 20 GSC. Either way you'll have a good show though.

I'd say the Civil War. Great car counts, great racing and if you have time you can drive to Infineon from Petaluma in 30-45 minutes and watch the NHRA drags on Saturday before you go to Petaluma.

Thanks Mike, why didn't I think of that! Money's a little tight and, rather than attend two events at Petaluma, I'd like to check out another track I've never been to, Watsonville. Thanks to everyone for the input. I've been to the Friday night qualifying session at Infineon a couple of times in the past few years. The nitro cars are amazing but I think seats should be about half price considering how little time one spends sitting in them. Not sure why spectators feel the need to stand up as the cars head toward the traps but if people would remain seated everyone could see just fine. They should repeatedly make announcements on the p.a. to this effect until folks take the hint. Sorry about the rant but that's honestly the way I feel about it.

Well I am partial to the GSC series so I would say go there Even though they don't get high car counts they have really talented drivers who put on a great show at Petaluma. Not saying that the CW doesn't have talented drivers, but they have some drivers who just don't know how to get out of the way, if you know what I mean There are some awesome drivers in the CW series who would do great with the GSC, but just don't have the funding to do so Petaluma is one of my favorite tracks around and I have been to many of them, he he!
Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!
