Broken spindle costs Jimmy Pettit good finish at SDS/ Skyway Tools Center "Dash for Tools" this Friday

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – July 13, 2009…Chico's Jimmy Pettit looked to be on way to another strong finish this past Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway until a broken front spindle caused a dnf with just a few laps remaining in the main event.

This most recent Friday's event marked the 13th point of the Feather Falls Casino championship season at the Silver Dollar Speedway and going into the night Pettit possessed a 14 point lead in the wingless sprint car standings. Sponsoring the night were local business' Withrow's Motorsports and JP's Paint & Body Works, two great supporters of the track.

Pettit started out the evening by running a close second in his heat race to winner Billy Wallace and then earned the pole position for the 20 lap feature. At the waving of the green flag the "Love-shack" settled into second, but going into turns one and two leader Terry Shank Jr. bicycled, which would have given Pettit the opening he needed, however, at the same time he bicycled himself and it allowed Wallace the chance to zoom into the lead.

Running in second Pettit stayed close to Wallace, but with a very fast and narrow track it made passing chances extremely hard to come by. The Chico racer was running a solid race at the helm of the Kevin Sharrah Designs, Ing. Excavation, Pep Boys, Hunt Magnetos No. 24p when he slowed to a stop off turns three and four on lap 17 due to a broken spindle. He was unable to restart and was placed eighth in the final rundown.

Despite being disappointed with the tough ending Pettit was happy with the performance of the car and remained upbeat even with the dnf. "The car was really good tonight and although I don't think we could have got Wallace we certainly would have run second," Pettit said. "I want to thank my crew chief "Captain Ron" Kalpakoff and the team because the set-up we threw at it was perfect for the way the track was. It wasn't the way we wanted to end the race, but sometimes you have nights like this and all you can do is come back the next week and try to rebound."

This Friday's Feather Falls Casino event at the Silver Dollar Speedway will be Care Free Pools Night with support for the wingless division coming from Skyway Tool Center featuring the "Dash for Tools." Located at the corner of Bruce Road and the Skyway, Skyway Tool Center owners Doug & Sherry Gillis feature a great assortment and terrific pricing on all the tools any person could want or need.

As a sponsor of Jimmy Pettit and the "Love-shack" Motorsports team we are celebrating 9 years of a successful relationship that has seen many victories aboard the No. 24P machine. "Doug and Sherry have always been a great sponsor and are always supportive of racing," said Pettit. "As a local owner they have seen business booming because people see the value of shopping local and how much it benefits the community as a whole."

Going into the night Pettit will hold a 15 point lead in the wingless sprint standings at SDS over good friend Taylor Simas and will be looking to get back into victory lane. "We're looking forward to this Friday and it should be a great night," commented Pettit. "Last year it was a lot of fun and should be just as good this season and hopefully we can get this car on the front straightaway at the end of the night."

Ya i work on the fire crew, that really sucked when that happened to jimmy. Knew his steering was out before he went over the back of turn 4. I am sure next week he will kill it and rebound from this. Go Pettit... I have full confidence that he will not only win the championship, but go to victory lane this Friday. I know it is a bold prediction but Jimmy never lets us down... Go Jimmy!!!
GO ALLARD!!!!!!
