B19,

This is a neat shot, I believe the #14 to be Gene Scott it was a pretty little red & white coupe. I'm was not sure on the #3 also I remember Billy Riggle but thought he drove #75. With Melvin in Doc's #3 would this be Bill Lewis in the #54 or I know Melvin drove the #54 but wasn't that in '69? On the #77 is it possible that might have been an early Joe Farley? Thats Ron in the #79, I believe that is Larry Cole in the #15 Gary's brother if I see Gary's son tonight I'll find out for sure!! On the #17 I remember Ron Black but I thought Les Ziegler drove the 17?

Jim if your out there see if you can help on some of these!!!!!

#14 Gene Scott sponsored by Kens' Pizza Parlor if I remember correctly.

I remember Billie Riggle in the 75 car with a Texaco sponser, but for some reason I thought he ran #3 before that.

I remember Bill Lewis in the 54 but I thought it was white with blue numbers and lettering. Melvin drove a black and red 54 but I thought he started the season in the gold and white 3.

I'm pretty sure you're right on Farley in the 77, I remember Joe in the 750 car also.

B19,

I believe your right on the #54 it was white and blue when Bill drove it, I believe it was sponsered by Midwest Auto Parts & Machine. If you look close at the picture it does look like Melvins Gold helmet in pic's of both cars, I know in 1 of those Parr Auto pic's of A-FEA winners there was a great shot of Melvin in this #54 after winning an A-FEA. Dewey's Texaco was the sponser on the #75 of Billy Riggle, Pop Dewey was right across the street from Walker's Speed Shop he was a great old guy!!! Billy may have ran the #3 I'll ck with GRC 35 & Bad to The Bone and see if we can get an answer.

I pull these programs out every now and then, it is hard to put them away for a year or two.

If I had a larger scanner it would come out clearer here.

B19,

Talked to Jerry Cole at the track tonight and he said the #15 was his dad Gary Cole, he ran the #15 until Gary Frizzell took the number and Gary changed to the #35, Gary's brother drove a super for awhile but Jerry wasn't born yet and didn't know the # of Larry's car.

Wow.  I am impressed.  Not only that Bandit 19 knew dad's car, but the nickname as well. That was probably dad's favorite car.  Love those Bucrons. He was especially proud of that set of headers.  Despite having built dozens of sets of headers through the years (which I think he always spelled "hedders", on that set, he had gone to great lengths to get all of the primaries the exact same length in an early attempt to tune the exhaust.  If memory serves, he got stuck in the side after a spin and ruined the left side.  The right side is probably still in the rafters of the garage.

The picture of the quarter-milers lined up to come out with Mike Allison leading the field is ironic since I was just explaining this last Friday to Junior how the quarter-milers pitted in between the two tracks with nothing but a berm and Armco fence to protect themselves.  We were walking the track Friday after the show and looked at the back straight to see that the berm no longer exists since they expanded (butchered) the track, which is why the cars not only "look" like they are falling off the back straight, they actually are.

Not to brag, but I think that is dad again on the high side of McWhorter.  How we made the cover of a program twice is a mystery to me.

Great memories.

The #33 is Bobby Reynolds. I was reading in my 1973 NCRA yearbook and it says that Benny Taylor would be in a different car this year, teaming with owner Pat Suchy. I remember it started out as #33 and he had a nasty flip at SFS. When they brought the car out the next time it had Bennys' familiar #13 on it. Harold Leep started driving for Suchy in 1976 winning his 3rd NCRA Championship.

Does anyone in the Oklahoma area remember who bought Walt McWhorter's #98 Vicky pictured in that program. It is believed it went to Oklahoma? Could it still be around??
