Big weekend planned at Speedway

The ground will thunder Saturday night as Enid Speedway Park kicks off the 2009 Firecracker Shootout. Hard-charging competitors will put their fast rides on the 3/8-mile track in anticipation of the big-money purses. Modifieds will be competing for $1,500 to win, with limited modifieds vying for $1,000 to win.

Platinum Motorsports drivers Mark Smith, Michael Smith and Joe Adams procured sponsorships for the pure stock class, resulting in a $500 payout for first, followed by $300 for second and $200 for third. Sponsors include R&M Pipeline, Platinum, The Rocket 104.7, Dunsworth Machine, Speed Tech Automotive, Bob Dunlap Dozer Service, Wood Pipe Service, 4 Point Reclamation and Lampton Welding Supply.

Following the special card of racing, Enid Speedway Park will light up the skies of northern Enid with its annual fireworks extravaganza.

Rain make-up features are slated for July 11, with action starting at 6 p.m.

Its always been $15 for the forth of july show. But , in the past their has always been late models racing on that night. The stands will be empty anyway. Because, It will be hard to complete agaist enids meodow lake parks firework show when it free. I think they should of had it on friday...

I like Kip but I wouldnt hand this to him just yet...The USMTS series is off til late july, them woodward boys might be here. I really hope there is a decent car count, so maybe this track can get back to where it should be....

They should have added money to all the classes in my opinion...

Well I spent the evening at the speedway with Craig Ridgeway trying to get his car dialed in, after a hard crash the last time out.

I got to spend a few moments with Lonnie Colville,

We talked about several subjects, mostly about the race track.

The entry fee doesnt include the drivers pitpass this weekend, I didnt like hearing this but Lonnie explained it all. All other tracks have their own concessions and can count on that to carry them through... the fairgrounds have ALL the concessions at the speedway and raised the lease by 25% per weekend. Its a tough spot to be in and I could see it as Lonnie was speaking to me. I know that Lonnie has rubbed a few people the wrong way but all and all he is still the funny guy that I have always known. Always remember, there are more than one person running this track and ultimately it is James Longpine who makes the decisions.

I made a few suggestions and Lonnie listened to everyone of them, that doesnt mean they will be used, just that he had the common decency to listen. It was a good conversation and we helped get the push out of Craig Ridgeways HotRod.

Good talking with you lonnie...

Good luck to everyone this weekend, be safe and race hard!!!!

Hey Jason,

Did Enid have a play night Wednesday? I live here and didn't even hear about it.

I wonder if they have a rain date in mind, the weather could be a little iffy Saturday.

No it wasnt a playday, Craig Ridgeway rented the track so he could run around and see how his car was going to react. How is everything with you Mark? You racing this weekend? Im sure you will be... well I hope to see you there. I havent heard a thing about a plan B if it rains this weekend, I do know the last rainout will be run July 11.

Talk to you saturday,

Jayson

I can help you on a few of these....

Weder isnt racing right now(even has his latemodels put up), Rameriz and Rowland are running the USMTS series, Mcnamara is driving a sportmod, the Gemmils are running IMCA or a series like it, McClaskey runs NCRA and a few USMTS shows. The only time Franz or Green was in Enid was when there was either A USMTS, NCRA, or the WinterNationals...

I would venture a guess and say that Rowland and Rameriz will probably show up this weekend, since their series is off...

You figure that in with the good ones that left because of financial reasons and you are left with only a handful of cars.

i agree with you in part jaydad, that they are running other series races, but where are they when there not running these series races, i notice they are races at other race tracks that are alot farther away then enid on there off weekends, i know a few of them personally and they tell me they dont want to put up with all the bs at enid, in fact one of the racers i mentioned has told me in fact about every track they have been to all the promotors have come to there pits and thanked them personally for racing there and invited them to come back anytime , they said they have never seen that at enid , said you show up there and get your but chewed at the drivers meeting.....sure wish they would all be racing at enid again , sure was some good racing in enid when they had a good field of cars, something has happened in enid , im not sure what it is but other tracks i have been going to seem to still have good car counts, even the small tracks like caney has a decent car count......
