It ran under the AMRA rules, but was not a season points race.

Rahe holds off High to win AMRA Season Opener Using
the pole position to maximum advantage Chris Rahe held off Nathan High
over the last 9 laps and 3 yellow flags to win the AMRA season opener
at Manzanita Speedway. They were racing hard for the win which both
of them have become accustomed to getting, with Rahe taking 3 wins in 2006 while High took 4.
The
race began with Rahe holding off 2005 AMRA rookie of the year Chad Boat
for the first 10 laps with High in third and Bob Ream Jr in fourth.
Boat closed in as they began to come up on lapped traffic but was
unable to get by and then a mechanical failure ended Chad’s night. Rahe
said “I stayed on the bottom, with as good as our car was it would take a lot to get by me and if they could they earned it.”
Following
Rahe and High across the line where Jeff Henry, 2006 AMRA champion Bugs
Norbury who came back from a spin on lap 2, Darrin Bolton
and Dustin Burkhart. High, Ream and 2006 Indiana Sprint Week Champion
Jon Stanbrough were all driving for car owner Mike Burkhart, who’s cars
won 7 AMRA features in 2006. Ream and Stanbrough’s night ended on a lap
11 restart as cars began to jam up in turn one they wound up hitting
each other.
The first heat would become vital to the main as
High, held off Rahe and Boat to get the win. Rahe added “I couldn’t
catch Nathan in the heat but he showed me where I would need to run to
be fast and I knew I would have to gamble because Chad was very quick
in the heat also so, we made the car tighter and it paid off.” The
second heat was won by Stanbrough followed by Ream and Norbury, the
race was red flagged twice first on lap 2 when 2006 AMRA rookie of
the year CJ Sarna was hit by Alex Pruitt, Sarna flipped wildly in
turn two but was not injured. Pruitt would bring out a red flag 2 laps
later when he flipped in turn four, he was okay.
Our club
vice president Paul Norbury Jr is recovering from an accident while he
was working Friday, He is in John C Lincoln Hospital with a broken
pelvis and shoulder injury. Paul is the father of drivers Bugs and
Paul A. Norbury, he ans his wife Pat are car owners. Our thoughts and
prayers go to the Norbury family.
