NWWT at Willamette Speedway rained out
Andrew Kunas, NWWT Publicist

LEBANON, Ore. - After getting in two races successfully, the NorthWest Wingless Tour has suffered its first rainout in its short history. Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore. was to host the tour's first night of its inaugural Summer Shootout Series. Excessive water on the track grounds and on the track itself have led track officials to believe they will not be able to host any racing tonight.

Severe heat-generated thunderstorms rolled through northwestern Oregon on Thursday and generated high wins, bucket loads of rain, several funnel clouds and even unconfirmed reports of tornadoes actually touching ground, a Pacific Northwest rareity. One of the unconfirmed tornadoes reportedly came down just west of Lebanon, where Willamette Speedway is located. The track is believed to have suffered no damage in Thursday's storms, but rainfall has continued into Friday afternoon and the grounds at the track are soaked with water.

As of this press release, Saturday's NorthWest Wingless Tour event at Cottage Grove Speedway is still a go. Should things turn for the worse regarding Saturday's event, the NWWT will make an effort to notify all parties involved. After Willamette rain, NWWT makes Shootout bonus money decision
Andrew Kunas, NWWT Publicist

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore - When Friday's opener of the NorthWest Wingless Tour's Summer Shootout Series weekend at Willamette Speedway was washed out by rain, Shootout organizer Keith Steenslid started working the phones, contacting all the businesses who are sponsoring the two-day event.

The NWWT is pleased to announce that none of the Summer Shootout Series sponsors are pulling their money from the event after discussions with Steenslid, despite weather wrecking havoc with the situation.

The bonus money was originally to be mostly paid to the top five point scorers in each of the NWWT's divisions, the non-wing 360 sprint cars and the midgets. Here is what the NWWT will do with the bonus money that was raised for this weekend's Summer Shootout Series:

* - Just over half of the money will be paid at Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday night.

* - The remaining money will be bonus money at another race later this season. A couple of events are being considered. Steenslid and the NWWT Board will discuss the matter and a announcement is expected to be made in the near future.

* - At Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday night, points will not be factored in as there is only one night of racing this weekend. The top five finishers in each main event will receive the bonus money on top of the payout from the track.

* - In the non-wing 360 sprint car division...bonus money to paid is $250 for 1st, $150 for 2nd, $100 for 3rd, $75 for 4th and $50 for 5th. Combined with the track payout of $800, Saturday's NWWT sprint car main event is now $1,050 to win.

* - In the midget car division...bonus money to be paid is $150 for 1st, $100 for 2nd, $75 for 3rd, $50 for 4th and $40 for 5th. Combined with the track payout of $500, Saturday's NWWT midget car main event is now $650 to win.

* - The hard charger award money remains the same as well. The sprint car driver who improves the most positions in Saturday's main event earns an extra $150. In the midget division the hard charger will receive $100. The hard charger bonus money from Friday's rained out event at Willamette Speedway will be awarded at the yet to be determined event later this season.

The NorthWest Wingless Tour would to thank everyone who is sponsoring the NWWT's Summer Shootout Series and wish things could've worked out as intended. Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway, qualifying is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with racing at about 6:45 p.m.
