I'm thinking I will Sozo unless they hit me with an overtime shift at the last minute. Can't make I-30 though -- got to work. Might be late at my home track -- Ark-La-Tex -- cause of work too and may have to leave early from Fast Trax because I have to work early Saturday morning. Can't make Drew County (Monticello) this year but I'll be announcing at Boothill on the Sunday.

I would LOVE to do the Fort Smith/Little Rock back to back but cant do it cause of work. Savimg my vacation for sometime in August.

I am looking seriously at Creek County for the ASCS speedweek, however.

From Jeff Nunn, USMTS Media,

Fast Shafts offers incentive for USMTS Southern Speedweek competitors

DES MOINES, Iowa – Fast Shafts will be offering some extra incentive for drivers utilizing nine-inch Ford rearends at this week's USMTS Southern Speedweek events.

At each of the six event, Fast Shafts will award an additional $100 to the main event winner if that driver is utilizing a nine-inch Ford rearend. If the award is not won the first day, the bounty will climb to $200 for the next event and so on with a possible $600 bonus at the June 14 finale.

USMTS Southern Speedweek kicks off on Tuesday, June 9, at the Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, Okla. From there, it's an encore engagement at the I-30 Speedway on Wednesday, June 10.

Just across the border, Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, La., will host the USMTS Southern Series on Thursday, June 11, followed by the season's only stop at the Drew County Speedway in Monticello, Ark., on Friday, June 12.

On Saturday, June 13, the Fast Trax Speedway in Chatham, La., will host the USMTS Southern Series while a return to the Boothill Speedway on Sunday, June 14, will put the wraps on Speedweek.

Each event pays $2,000 to win with a minimum $200 to start the Sunoco "A" Main each night.

Specializing in drive shafts and rear ends for short track racing, Fast Shafts are built to each racer's specifications and are professionally balanced. All Fast Shafts come with the standard GM slip yoke and standard U-joint.

Fast Shafts uses only the best to build their gears including Motive ring and pinions, bearing kits from Motive Gear and Mittler Brothers spool. Each gear is both documented and numbered. Ask about their nine-inch gear rental program and their huge inventory of used nine-inch gears from many NASCAR teams, most of those already polished and lightened.

All Ford 9-inch gears come in lightweight performance that is legal, safe and proven fast. Quicker acceleration using your existing horsepower and less braking required due to less rotating mass. All gears are given a machined after-heat treating to assure there will be no distortion. The reduction in weight that they offer will allow you to more effectively manage your weight distribution.

Fast Shafts, a division of Axle Exchange, Inc., is located at 5387 NW 2nd St. in Des Moines, Iowa. For more information, call toll-free 800-622-6617 or visit www.fastshafts.com online.

Speedweek Weather

Right now (9AM), radar shows Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana all clear except for some light stuff around the Ark-La-Tex. That's OK. We don't race there til Thursday so free water!!!

There is a disagreement between Weather.com (Weather Channel) and Intellicast.com on the rain chances for the Fort Smith and Little Rock races. It all revolves around how far south a midwest cold front is predicted to go. Right now, it's in Kansas and Missouri and is stalled there. Weather.com pushes it further south and faster than intellicast does, therefore they predict higher chances. Typically though, this time of year, fronts stall before they get this far south and even recede north as a warm front. If your in Kansas and Missouri, the news may not be so good the next couple of days but Oklahoma and Arkansas, I don't think the chances are near as high as they are saying.

And if we do get a shower, chances are it's the afternoon/evening type and timing will be everything. Some tracks may welcome the water at the right time with high temps at 90-93 and we should have plenty of cars for re-packing if necessary.

For the record, here is what weather.com is saying NOW but over Memorial Day Weekend, we battled through weather.com calling for 80% chance of rain all weekend and got 2 of our 3 shows in! I'd take 20% away from these forecasts right now!

Tri-State TODAY

Day 30% Night 50% (I bet that goes down this evening!) High 91

I-30 Wed

Day 40% Night 50% (I bet they drop those chances too!) High 92

Ark-La-Tex Thur

Day 30% Night 30% High 90 (After last year's drying, desert wind, we'll take it! Smile )

Fast Trax Friday

Day 40% Night 20% High 91 (Free daytime water! Yea!!!)

Drew Co. Saturday

Day 30% Night 10% High 91 (This is about the forecast they should be calling for everybody this week. Typical June weather and we don't rain out from it!)

Boothill Sunday

Day 10% Night 10% High 93% ( Boothill has the best 'forecast'!!!)
