Unfortunately, that's a generic date. They gave a release saying 2009 and now they don't know when it will be out, so they give December 31st. Typically games don't release on a Thursday. This is not uncommon, other games such as the Gran Turismo series do the same. I wish it was sooner than later, hope they do it right too.

the ASCS should do a game so we have
a lot of drivers to choose from
chance to run non wing
start out running a regional series
run for tow money on Career mode
and even throw in the option to buy a 410 so maybe you could win an extra $4,000 with a "Premier series" (i'm just kidding. but it would be fun)
and wouldn't it be fun to run the Short track nationals and now the Western World Championship?

New midgets coming out for rfactor. In the beggining of the video they are running on a version of the chilibowl that I worked on with a couple of other guys. You won't get that out of one of these "console" games.

You can download it for free, but you can't add any of the extra stuff to it until you do the full purchase. The last I checked it ran about forty bucks.
Once you purchase the full game there is a massive amount of free stuff that you can get for the game. Literally anything from gocarts to formula one and everything in between. I've built quite a few dirt tracks for the game and a guy that I work on tracks with is making a new, more realistic sprint car for the game. And, as you can see, these new midgets are top notch. The kiwi's even got Corey Kruesman(spelling?) to test the midgets. The story with pictures is on their site. Just visit the link thats in the video.

Hopefully this game will at least be equal to the 2001 version.
It would be nice to race against all the big names past and present not just WoO drivers. Also would be nice to see some new tracks. (ie Skagit, Lincoln, Lawrenceburg, I-34, KC, Volusia, Attica, Sharon, and Gray's Harbor to name a few)
If they are going to do it, do it right. No more half a$$ stuff or I am going to have to become a game designer and do it myself.

Some tracks I been to that I think would be fun in video racing would be I-30 in Little Rock and Cowtown in Ft. Worth, Texas.
My "home" track in OKC would be pretty cool too, maybe even Devils Bowl.
I like your list Whyld - Skagit would be great.
I'd like to run a non wing at Kokomo and Gas City too - wouldnt get any better than that. Hell they could make a game where you can run non wing at all the IN tracks (and some others) and then winged at all the big winged tracks.....
never gets old to day dream bout the perfect sprint car game
How much would could a wouldchuck chuck if a
wouldchuck could chuck would

Completely agree.
I think the WoO 2001 is a great game. Add a track or 10, update the drivers and sponsers and they would float my boat for eight more years. I'm not forturnate to be able to drive a sprint car of my own yet so simulation is my only ticket at the moment. Cant wait for WoO 2009. I'm gonna kick Donny Schatz butt all over the place. Some one has to do it!!! haha, LETS DO THIS...

it would be sweet if they gave you the option to have different paint schemes. like your avatar. i'm not a Joey fan but i would love to drive that car just because.

Like a few others have said that date is merely a placeholder generic date. The real date will be given when THQ who is publishing the game for Big Ant makes a formal announcement, which supposedly is pretty soon.

I hope this game don't suffer the same fate as the DIRT game that was supposed to have WoO Sprints and Late Models.
