Brandon Wimmer – Strong Runs with WoO and All Stars!

(Bill W) June 1, 2009 – The records will state Brandon Wimmer finished 26th with the World of Outlaws last Friday at Attica Raceway Park, but the reality was, he was one of the fastest cars in the field come feature time. He proved that not once, but twice. He followed that up with an impressive charge at Eldora Speedway with the All Stars on Saturday. This weekend finds the All Star Circuit of Champions at the Lernerville Speedway near Sarver, Pennsylvania on Friday, and the Elkins Speedway in Elkins, West Virginia on Saturday.

When the WoO comes to Attica, Ohio, the local crowd is always ready for them. That included Brandon and car owner Rick Ferkel's effort in the #0. With 43 cars in attendance, they timed in 19th. After finishing one spot out of a transfer in the heat, a strong B main lined them up outside row nine for the main event. The Fairmount, Indiana driver moved up immediately. "The car was working well," he says. "We were up to 11th or so, when we made contact with Dean Jacobs and that flattened the tire. We replaced it and restarted 24th or whatever and shot back up to 13th by the finish. The car was really working well."

The two charges were for nothing but a bit of confidence in the end, as the wheel that was used after the flat proved to be illegal. "We had a 19 inch rear wheel on it," says Brandon. "I didn't notice it, but we did. One of the Outlaws complained about it, so the official was on our car right after the race. It's funny they would worry about little old us, but it wasn't a good night for them overall (All Star Dale Blaney won the feature). It was the right call, but it was a shame because the tire we flattened was definitely on a legal wheel, and I think we had a top ten car for sure."

Forty cars entered the All Star show at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio on Saturday. Brandon qualified a disappointing 32nd, and finished one spot out of a transfer in the heat for the second night in a row. "It didn't help that we were the last car out to time," he says. "We moved up a couple spots in the heat, but fell one short of the transfer spot."

Starting 12th in the B main with only four transferring to the feature, it looked bleak for Brandon in the beginning. He would snag the final transfer late in the going. "We really had to work in the B main to get to the top four," he says. "We were lucky to get a caution with three or four laps to go when we were running sixth. We were able to get by a couple of guys to get in."

Despite going a lap under in the non-stop main event, Brandon managed to charge forward ten spots from his start outside row twelve and finished 14th. "The car was working well again and we were moving forward," he says. "Unfortunately, we got lapped really early on. Once the track slicked off after the heat races, we were really good."

After suffering some mechanical ills in the last month, Brandon feels like things are headed in the right direction going into this weekend's races in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. "It was a really good week for where we've been running, and it gives you some confidence going into the upcoming races. It was a real positive."

Brandon and Rick Ferkel would like to thank the following sponsors for all their help: Shorty's Truck Repair, Smith's Farm, Goodyear Tires, Griff's Engines, Kear's Speed Shop, Huggins Cams, BRODIX Heads, Barnes Oil Pumps, Prism Lubricants, Zeis Land Development, Butlerbuilt, Simpson, Winning With Wellness and WRT Web Designs.

I would like to congratulate Brandon on a great run at Eldora. My family and I made the 5 hour trip to Eldora from Haubstadt, IN to watch Brandon Wimmer in particular. My daughter's dad worked for Brandon when he drove the 7tw car for his grandpa, Tom. And it was worth it. The racing was great, but the Bmain had us on our feet! The anticipation of whether or not Brandon would get that final transfer spot was awesome. And then to start 24th and finish 10th was a great job by Brandon. I know he's had some bad luck here lately (but what team doesn't sometime or another), and it seems to be turning around for him now, which is great. So again, congrats to Brandon and the #0 team! Keep doing what your doing!!!

You know what, so what if he doesn't when or finish in the top 10, at least he's out there doing what he loves to do (even though Brandon wants to win just as much as the next person), so back off!! Could you do any better!!!! Leave the guy alone! He does have the talent to finish better than what he has been, but when you got a motor that's not that great, it's kind of hard to. He's a great young man, and no matter how he does he stays for his fans, unlike some of the top guys who take off in a hurry!! Just my 2 cents.

I talked to him a few times and was impressed with his driving especially at Placerville at first but then when he started driving really agressively and taking guys out I lost a lot of respect for him!

Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!
