This was one of the first cars to utilize a safety net on the roll cage to protect a driver from a violent crash with the wall. Dennis had this installed after Billy Vuckovich lost his life at Mesa Marin the December before. The nets later became mandatory for all sprint cars which was a great safety improvement. Althoug Dennis would nearly lose his life at Eldora the following year, he is back racing at Ventura with the V.R.A. 360 group.
