Rainouts have played havoc on getting shows in, so they had to add the other classes in. Saturday begins with the gates opening at 5pm.

They have hot laps scheduled for intermission--LOOK HERE- I have negotiated an extra set of 5 laps earlier in the evening. Basically we need to treat it as hot laps-exhibition feature. Sunday is whatever we want to do on track.

Vintage cars ----Our pits are the INFIELD. If you have a large enclosed trailer, you need to see if they'll let you out there, tall trailers obstruct the view.

If you like the old supers, come on out and support us please.

I sure was hoping they would get to run this deal, but it is not looking real good as of now, lots of rain down there already and I guess more is on the way according to the weather man.

It'll give us time to regroup on the vintage end. Rain or not, this weekend wasn't the best weekend for some of our guys. My best guess is they'll give it a raindate.

We won't be able to make it the May 30 but we will be there on the 31st. The Mopar is running great after sitting for 12 years. Can't wait to take a spin in it. Keep the faith this will grow into a good groupe of faithful followers. And those who do not choose to take the ride will be left bebind. That's my two cents worth. Trammel

How it went-

I was late to begin with. 3 cars came in from Wichita Falls and they actually trusted ME to get them to the track. I only got lost twice, reasonably feels like it should be a personal record.

We pulled in at 6:30, and things were already heating up out there. We had no time left to be outside due to me getting everybody lost, and a few unexpected events along the, but we got there.

28 Champ Sprinters showed up to take top honors, the OCRS opened the carb rules to allow OkC regulars a chance to compete. The stands crowded, the sprinters had to have a "B" feature, something that they normally don't have at these shows at OSP. The gist of what this show meant to all parties required them to all come together on one night to make it happen. At the end of the OCRS A main, Frank Dittman came out on top, rather he was on top all night.

The Leep Family presented the trophy, and he was glad to be the one getting I assure you.

Down in the infield we were getting all kinds of attention. It is so hard to work on your car when there are so many people , like yourself, who love the old cars. Still we readied the cars best we could, knowing we had a few laps during the intermission. This turned out good, since we are finding the bugs in our cars and at the same time saving them for Sunday. Like they do in Kansas, we put on a "show".

5 laps, just have fun and run your own pace, pics from bandit19

Father and son from Rogers, Arkansas/DFW, they brought out this car they have been working on for over a year. I know these guys by sight, but please forgive me, so much info, little short-term memory left , this car ran smoooooth, in-out box and all. I need to get some tips from these guys

George Jackson took the wheel behind a super for the first time in his racing filled life, must have liked it, he spun trying to have too much fun.

IMG_0047.jpg picture by brian26_photos_2007

James Skinner came in with his Champ car, gave us some room and opened 'er up a little to let the crowd know what these cars are capable of

IMG_0048.jpg picture by brian26_photos_2007

And of course, me. James was trying to let us all get ahead of him so that we could see what the front looked like. Uh....ok.......so I went. Had a blast, water temp at 240 degrees 5 laps later. I got work to do.

That brings me to the surprise I sprung on these guys. Yes, being an armchair promoter I found myself in a situation that made me make a call that I had been worried about doing, but dang if it didn't work.

Earlier in the evening I realized that since the date had been changed because of rain, our vintage car count would be short. Still, there was enough eye candy to get the goosebumps busy. I left word with Tony Bond of Mudslinger Video, to get a quick interview of whomever won the 50/50 drawing up in the grandstand. The concept being that we have NO EARTHLY IDEER as to who would win the thing. %50 to the winner, %50 to the track point fund. During said interview, the person stated his name, ( I have no idea just yet, waiting for the video), and he stated that his favorite Vintage Race Car that evening was the 'little red #6'

The Lady Luck Challenge winner, Harold Lindsey- Sizzlin 6. I will have on track photos when I can. A quick collection came about from unidentified sources and the track promoter- George Welch. $70 went to Mr. Lindsey, maybe that will take the bite off of the gas bill.

Winning that, he got to be the 'wild card' for Sunday, meaning he could take any spot he wanted in the order of the cars going out for 'Pole Run'. A token gesture for now, but that rule could play into strategy to win in the coming years--ie: Long line of cars, choose first then let it cool while the others make their runs. Should this go into another round, that option could give the car more time to cool, 1 less thing to worry about. It also gives the car more flexibility on time for any repairs.

Saturday night I slept with the cars for security purposes, however in Oil Center, Ok, the crime rate needs a boost since it was very peaceful out there. I stayed at the Hotel Chevy Duallie, with free unlimited radio and water.

Sunday morning I wake up, seeing the sun, all the while knowing the criminal threat was either in county jail, or asleep at that time(LOL), I slipped up the hill in the duallie to find that THEY HAVE A HUGE PIPE FENCE THAT IS BUILT LIKE FORT KNOX WHEN THE GATE IS LOCKED. They must have gotten a deal on steel pipe somewhere, because there is a lot of high fence out there.

I did find a way out, and I won't say what I did.

Wally-World in Ada was the destination, they had stopwatches and notebooks and fried chicken. Good enuff. Gathered up, came back to the track and and waited for things to begin.

This is where it gets interesting.

Saturday night during the show, some guy came out of the stands and looked the cars over. He isn't rich, Lord knows he could use a dollar or two, but then we all do. Somehow he knows a cousin of mine in Tulsa, we talked a bit about my quiet plans for Sunday and then he pulls out a $100 bill. Quote" I like these old cars, I like what these guys are doing. Take this and put it where it needs to go".

Of course I said it ought to go the winner of Sundays deal, which was fine with him. HE WANTS NO PART OF THE GLORY, SO, I HAVE TO NAME HIM "ANONYMOUS DONOR". Some would accuse me of being him, i assure you, after the last 6 months, I need my own Benjamins.

After some quick interviews with the cars and drivers done By Tony Bond, we commenced to do the deal. First there was a drawing to find the order we go out in, then the 'wild card' chose his spot.

4 laps, honest, consistent. The difference between the fastest and slowest laps, smallest of the group being the winner. ONE CAR ON THE TRACK AT A TIME FOR THIS PORTION.

We ended up with this-

1st Place- James Skinner, Wichita Falls, TX, car owner Dave Hesstand--Winner of Pole Run, Harold Leep Jr Memorial

score : .53---------prize: 1 quarter scale Naval Bronze Halibrand Knockoff (Courtesy of Ron Phillips, NC)and $100 (Anonymous Donor)

2nd place- George Jackson, Wichita Falls, TX, car owner Harold Lindsey

score :.84-----------------prize: Framed and Autographed AJ Foyt Coyote Enterprises t-shirt, from the 1992 auction at IMS (another anonymous donor)

3rd place- Brian Satterwhite, Springer, OK, car owner Cecil Satterwhite

1 Pioneer cd/radio receiver ( this is crazy, I donated this one and I won it back!)

In the coming days and weeks there is going to be some more video and pictures of the happenings at OSP. Tony Bond has been working feverishly to put out the best work he is able to do. Tony was a friend of Harold Leep Jr, and he is going to donate ALL of the proceeds from the sales of this DVD, to a fund in honor of Harold, being watched over by a trustee in the family. I have run into this guy several times and am amazed at how positive he is about this whole thing we are all stumbling through.

His website

Thanks Tony.

Brain, I enjoyed watching the vintage cars run, James Skinner can still get it done just like in the 70's in that 65 car he ran at Lawton.

The cars were just a lot of fun to watch , brought back memories from way back when and the Sprint Cars put on a great show as well , was really proud of my driver Joe Wood Jr., first time ever to run at the place and against some of the toughest Champ Sprints in the state and we get 4th.

Congrats to Frank Dittman fellow OKC racer who had us all covered Sat. night.

Weather was great and 28 Sprint Cars and a Big crowd and I believe Harold Leep Jr. would have been proud of this event and sure was glad to be a part of it.

It was a great show Brian , stay with it and it will grow to be bigger and better. J.D.

Hey JD,

Ever think of needing an impact for header bolts? I'm sure you do now! They really check those sprinters don't they! Good run Bud, Joe Jr did a great job out there.

You are not even aware of how hard it would have been for a Legend like you to have had peace and quiet here. The minute they would have heard someone of your status was in the house, several would have gone looking for you.

Thanks Luther, never met you, but we all know here that you are high-grade, even though you don't. Guys like you Mr. Brewer, guys like you..................

To further state my case

When we ran Saturday night, I Brian Satterwhite was out front, BUT THIS IS A "SHOW".

THE WINNER SATURDAY NIGHT WAS THIS CAR HERE. Had he had all the bugs worked out on his car, he could have swept the whole thing.

red6.jpg picture by brian26_photos_2007

I will be pursuing this angle, it keeps the old cars coming and I now have 364 days to get an even BIGGER prize for next year.

Our lap times on Sunday were between 20.78 seconds and 25.02 seconds.

Slower times were from rookies like myself

The track is a 3/8 banked, arched backstretch, considered by many a 'little 1/2 mile'.

i raced with people like jr bruner and randall buzbee and lots of others,,,, i dont remember them all,,, but i guess the buest complememnt i ever got was jr saying you never had the best equipment but you could sure read a race track and you allways got in in the best place for a good bite,,, so it was really hard to pass me,,, i put my heart and soul and blood and sweat and a lot of trying ,,, to get it all to work out,,, and it worked out,,,, i guess,,,

sold the car to harold in november after it was garage kept for over 20 years,,,, and guess what it still runs with some help... and a new body,,,, but the way i understand the running gear is still the same,,,,
