The following was on a news web site from Globe, AZ:
On April 28 Fred Barcon, President of the Gila County Industrial Development Authority, and David Cook, President of the Gila County Cattle Growers and Southern Gila County Economic Development Corporation Board Member, met with officials from Manzanita Raceway at the Gila County Fair Grounds.
The meeting was the first step in what could result in the building of a race track at the fair grounds. The Manzanita Raceway officials, who have been approached by several groups for the possibility of building tracks at other locations, were very pleased with the site and plans that were provided.
It is Cook and Barcon's hope that by bringing individuals and government together, a viable plan may be implemented to begin building the race track that some Globe residents have longed asked for. Cook and Barcon hope to have a follow up meeting within a few weeks to begin outlining a possible plan to move the track forward.

What a nightmare of a drive for haulers?
It's been many moons since I went to ASU and drove through Globe. I remember the road as being pretty tight in places. When I read the announcement above I was thinking the road wouldn't be much fun for haulers. Kind of similar to the road to Barona (except I don't believe there is an alternate road to Globe from Phx) But then I figured that they must have improved the road since then. So then I read the population count in BigFish's post and began thinking....."hmmm, maybe not so much"
Neat little town though.
This might give you an idea of the terrain

The road is 4 lane split to Superior now and they are in the process of making it 4 lanes to globe, I don't think that will help its still a drive from most parts of the valley.
